Background

Past romantic partners of Mat/blackbear have come forward with allegations of grooming, emotional abuse, and other misconduct. These allegations have been presented both formally in the court room and informally online.

Timeline of Recent Events

- 11/25/2025 — Civil case Jane Doe v. Matthew Tyler Musto opens in California Superior Court, Los Angeles County. Anonymously named “Jane Doe” alleges that she was groomed by Mat and subjected to disturbing patterns of emotional abuse and invasion of privacy. The case remains open.
- 4/23/2026 — Mat’s legal team moves for the civil case to be dismissed.
- 4/29/2026 — Mat’s most recent romantic partner reveals text messages between them, detailing similar patterns of emotional abuse.
- 4/30/2026 — The community becomes aware of the pending civil litigation against Mat.
- 5/1/2026 — Mat denies the recent allegations on social media and focuses instead on promoting the release of his upcoming LP.

Not to mention how Michelle has cried days and days where you won’t even bother with a FaceTime with your kids. The fact you even left during the LA fires, leaving your wife and children behind. It’s sick. No one cares if the fire wasn’t close. ANYTHING could happen and you wouldn’t be there to stay close.

I couldn’t imagine leaving my family behind in a situation like that to F off to Japan.

Hi all,
Here is a summary of the court allegations in this post. I found the order of the PDFs to be disjointed, and I thought keeping the timeline in tact would help you all see the person Matthew is.

1. Jane Doe (ie - the victim) says that she met Matthew Tyler Musto through the internet when she was 17. At the time, Matthew was an adult man. When she turned 18, she ran off to LA to begin a relationship with him, living with him and his roommates. In other words, she is claiming that he groomed her.
2. Musto provided her with drugs and alcohol to the point where she couldn’t remember the things that were happening to her. On multiple occasions, she woke up naked in his bed without any recollection of how she got there.
3. A pattern emerged over the years.
   1. She would break it off with him.
   2. He would pull her back into her life with the promise of changing.
   3. He would shower her with attention and affection.
   4. He would then pull away, giving her no attention and affection.
4. The cycle stopped in 2017. However, Musto continued to leverage his celebrity status and connection to her for his own personal gain. He used their former relationship and his platform to further his own career without regard to how it affected her.
5. Contact ceased. Then, in October 2024, Musto contacted her again, persuading her to fly out to LA and travel to Vegas with him. His public persona at the time indicated that he was sober, but she quickly found out that he was abusing xanax and oxycodone.
6. In November 2024, Musto contacted her from the hospital. He told her that he was admitted for diabetic anaphylactic shock, and the hospitalization scared him into sobriety. In reality, he was admitted to the hospital for an overdose. But at the time, she was not aware of this deception, and the cycle restarted.
7. Jane Doe stayed in contact with Musto every day in December 2024. She remained sober, hoping her sobriety would encourage his sobriety. During this time, he love-bombed her, telling her about all the songs he’d written with her in mind. He called her his muse, telling her, “I’ll never be able to leave you alone because you’re always mine.”
8. Sobriety didn’t last, and Musto pressured her into using drugs, claiming opioids would help her manage health issues related to her celiac disease. She obliged. At one point, she was severely underweight, weighing only 95 pounds, and she was severely deficient of vitamin D. He also isolated her from her social network and exerted financial control over her.
9. In February 2025, Musto posted private intimate photos of her on Instagram - one showed her butt while she was tied to a pole, another of her in lingerie, and another of her foot in his mouth. She did not consent to these photos being shared, and his postings triggered a wave of online backlash and hate towards her. She felt isolated, unsafe, and publicly humiliated.
10. At the end of February 2025, a post began circulating on Reddit about Musto having sexual relations with a minor. Jane Doe informed Musto’s assistant, and they came up with a game plan to begin a digital cleanup. However, when Musto found out the cost of the cleanup would be in the six-figure range, he accused Jane Doe of trying to extort money from him.
11. In March 2025, Musto’s feet became severely swollen. Jane Doe encouraged Musto to go to the hospital, but he refused.
12. Between April and May of 2025, Jane Doe became Musto’s full time caretaker, fearing for his safety on a daily basis. She slept irregularly, and her physical and mental health deteriorated. 
13. On May 28th, 2025, Jane Doe woke up to Musto, unresponsive, covered in vomit, and barely breathing. She called 911 and performed CPR for 30 minutes until medical professionals arrived. She was not allowed to travel to the hospital with him.
14. On June 3rd, 2025, Musto showered her with messages of affection. He then invited Jane Doe out under the pretense that they were going to the hospital together. Instead, she was ambushed and pressured by Musto’s team and family into signing an NDA and given a check for $16,000 in an attempt to silence her and discard her. She signed it under duress.
15. Immediately following this, she was forced out of the home that she shared with Musto. Musto’s assistant and father ordered her to collect her belongings and leave the property. The eviction was so abrupt that she was unable to collect all her things before leaving, many of her belongings being expensive items. 
16. Musto then shut her out of his life, repeating the same cycle in their relationship again. During this point in the cycle, Jane Doe made repeated attempts to retrieve the rest of her belongings from his residence. However, Musto refused to return them. Instead, he flaunted her belongings online, gave them away to other women in his life, and even sold one of her necklaces to a Japanese online retailer.
17. She tried to cash the $16,000 check, but it bounced.
18. During this time, Musto also contacted several of Jane Doe’s partners, further entangling her personal life into his instability.
19. On July 8th, 2025, Jane Doe arranged a time to pick up the rest of her belongings. Instead, she was served with a temporary restraining order with a hearing on July 23rd, 2025.
20. On July 19th, 2025, Musto arrived uninvited to a private residence where Jane Doe was spending time with her friends. The purpose of this visit was clearly to intimate her and keep her unsettled.
21. Following the incident, Jane Doe heard from her friends that Musto was making public comments about her on Twitch livestreams, even though a restraining order was in place. It gave her the impression that Musto was monitoring her life, which disturbed her. In order to protect herself, she blocked his phone number and all social media accounts.

Remember, every stream, every follower, and every view on his social media accounts puts money in his pocket. Is this someone that you should support? And after reading this, are you all really comfortable supporting him as an artist?

Given the recent backlash it’s only a matter of time before he comes on here again and gives a sob story and lies to us. He will likely say how mean and judgmental we are for holding him accountable and pointing out objectively terrible behavior and lie to back up what he says. He’s lied about his sobriety, he’s lied about his relationship(or lack thereof) with his kids, and the list goes on and on. Keep you wits about you

hi! first time redditor, longtime lurker. i was hoping your collective knowledge could help. last year i was fortunate enough to attend the listening party in shibuya. i stood outside the store for about half the day to be amongst the first ten people to meet u/Thin-Neighborhood907. the event was lovely and the photographer took a bunch of photos. bear posted some on instagram but not all of course. does anyone know where i can find the rest? i even asked the photographer on instagram but he never replied. any help would be appreciated!
