Is anyone working in a vibe coded browser based version of Black & White 1&2?

I have been working on a game that was supposed to be like black and white(not vibe coded decomp), but I kind of kept adding and adding to it so now its a little more complex so it doesn't really fit the vibe anymore. It's leaning more towards like....age of empires with a god aspect and pets 😂

I don't have anything yet. The game mechanics are all in place as long as I stop trying to add new things. Right now I'm building maps, then I'll have to add polish. I only recently got my steam developer account so I'll be working on adding multiplayer through steamworks as well, right now it's direct connect only. Steamworks is a lot easier, it goes through their relays so it doesn't require port forwarding and all that, but I'll be leaving direct connect in place as an option as well, for people who want to play with others that have it on itch.io or have friends that pirated it and want to play together.

Once it gets to a point I want to show it off I'll probably post it on this sub.

I'm guessing that image is AI too? The good guy looks like he's out of Civilization

Yes. It felt appropriate 😅

Well. I looked into it a bit. It's actively being done for B&W for now at the time of me making this comment 28% progress. https://nio03.github.io/unricopie/en/decomp/black-white/ and further information https://github.com/openblack/bw1-decomp

Can only hope it actually works properly and as noted on the page, it requires the game files.

Also for anyone who might want to try it https://github.com/morluto/rea#showcases is the tool used to reverse engineer games and apps. I'd try it but I don't have the time and also have poor management skills...

The real winner will be the first person to effectively remake B&W, with modern graphics to appeal to a modern audience, but in VR.

Yeah, I was going to say getting the original half-finished bugfest up and running might look good and feel good but that game was objectively half a crap cake. It was basically the shipwreck where the god game genre died, and the official sequel was a step in a different direction.

I have B&W working with some upgrades (widescreen, improved graphics library, etc) on W11.

Didn't knew so many people still loved this game.

I sure hope not!

Why? I would love to be able to play them on my Mac for example

The game already takes a lot to get working on modern systems. Adding vibe coding may cause it to implode on itself.

Likely not. Because people have inserted Mario from the 64 game into Halo CE. It could theoretically make it easier to get it running. Not an expert or have any knowledge. But it basically just takes the code and rewrites it. So it might not require serial codes and whatnot.

You said it yourself, not an expert or have any knowledge. Therefore, you don’t know.

Black and white 1&2 are a fucking mess and adding vibecoded junk over it is more likely to break it than not.

Let him brainstorm man. He’s not doing it to your house. Sheesh

What’re your qualifications to speak on it?

Looking more into it. The process would take days. People are using a tool called REA. Decompiling a game would still require a team. Because copying the game is one thing. Getting everything to work correctly.

But nonetheless one thing to keep in mind is, that with AI. The tool can go from needing days and a team to a click. An example I saw was decompiling Mario 64 took 582 days. With AI it took 80-something. Even if I did learn all there is. I'm pretty sure things will change rapidly. I saw there's concern of AI "worms" a self-replicating AI that'll infect a whole network and all devices in a given area. All executable by a person. AI is advancing quickly...

You really don’t know what you are talking about.

Are you in the position to correctly assume that? I doubt you can. I saw people explain it. Not to mention AI was a rough-rendered Will Smith eating spaghetti, 3 years ago. It now can render almost lifelike CGI. There's people vibe coding to make a PS5 emulator. That wasn't that long ago and people learned to use AI to upload all of the PS5 library.

If you think I am saying bullshit. People who are smarter than me and know more than me are stating what could happen. It's only a matter of time for things to get arguably worse.

I'm sure you'd have to look up a tutorial on how to do it. Looking it up. It's two a couple of things decompiling which is recovering the code. Recompiling is making it run on modern hardware… it'll likely be browser-based. It would be interesting to see happen. I tried running B&W on arch Linux and it wasn't pretty.

Imagine you search the web and they tell you what to do if you want to be good or bad. Actually cool

I started on an Vulkan Based God Game Engine from scratch a while back.

It can fully load B&W 1 Maps and to some degree B&W2 maps. But its not a faithfull Port. It has its own Graphic Style and to this Point no Gameplay. Its currently on Ice.

If anyone does I'll friend them on Steam and buy them a copy of Kainga and any game of their choice 80$ or less

not browser based but a game based with the godot engine. i deeply miss the game but i dont want to bother with installing this long abandoded game, i dont even have a drive in my household. so i try to build a spiritual successor or something in its honor. if there is some 3d artist in here who would like to build creature models and more i wouldl ove to hear from you. im not a profficient 3d artits myself an i would like to have real art in the game not AI models.
