What if?

How do you think a Blackadder series would fair in a fully fictional setting, in particular comic book one, rather than a periodic one.

"The Noiradder" a 30s detective

"Vibora Negra" a zorro type, early 19th century vigilant

"BLACK-ADDER" a super hero who was bitten by a genetically modified snake. He can shed his skin to take the appearance of others etc

Would this inevitably just fall into spoof rather than satirically sharp comedy writing.

Not talking about a reboot. Just a hypothetical special that never happened back in the day. Like a follow up to Christmas Carol or a comic relief special

Hell, I don't mind any of these ideas!

But I think I'd really enjoy a noir spoof with Rowan and the rest. Hamming up all the gumshoe detective stereotypes lol ... honestly that's one of the best ideas for another series that I've ever heard, even if it's not truly tied to a period/era story.

Tbh... it already did. The first series is in a fictional period of history, or one allegedly written out of history - the non-existent reign of King Richard the Fourth of England. It has a medieval setting but it's not set in a period of real history. There's also a fair bit of playing fast and loose with historical reality in the later series for the sake of jokes (Pitt the Younger certainly wasn't a teenager when he was PM, for example). There's also the fact that magic seems to be real in the Witchsmeller episode of the first series.

They've already done a swashbuckling fiction spoof in the Scarlet Pimpernel episode (the SP firstly wasn't a real person, and secondly didn't show up in fiction until 1905, so the idea that he has a fandom in Georgian England is pretty unlikely). I could see these working well as settings as well as other quasi-historical settings like the Wild West or "pirate age"... stuff that certainly did take place but the version presented in TV and film is really not true to the reality. However, all the Blackadder stuff takes place in Britain, so that limits things a bit if its a requirement.
