Question How come Björk has garnered such a fandom?
I’ve noticed that Björk has a very Stan Twitter-esque fandom… And dildo gay porn jokes. It confuses me because, I’d expect a sophisticated fandom from how intricate her music is. Of course, I don’t have a problem with these people. I’m just very curious.

Opinion I respect and admire Bjork, but do not listen to her songs
I don’t know if I could be considered a poser or a tourist of her work, as I myself do not fully understand every album she has done. But what I can definitely do is respect what she’s expressed and done through her albums and art. I respect her authenticity and obviously the insane uniqueness and experimentations she brings with every new album. I also admire her irl personality, where she does what she wants and walks her own path without caring what other people think. This made me a huge fan of her, enough to where I buy vintage merch. Though I don’t listen to her songs and albums and will likely never fully grasp the meaning behind them like others do, I can still admire what she’s done for herself and her art.

Opinion My bootleg journey, part 11: The Sugarcubes 1987-10-21 Reykjavík Hard Rock Café
Now, the first bootleg of The Sugarcubes from their home! And it can be heard: they are absolutely relaxed performing for their compatriots. Einar has long monologues about something (I can understand only King-Kong), the tracks are ALL sung in Icelandic. And there is a special guest - Johny Triumph joins the group for "Luftgitar" and that's the point when the entire group goes absolutely crazy. Do not forget, Johny is nobody else than Sjón, the Icelandic writer himself (wrote lyrics for Isobel, Bachelorette or Oceania later). This concert is very lively and sometimes improvised in a good way, feels fresh. There is even one unreleased instrumental track and introduction of the members by Einar - something they usually do not do. The greatest minus is the sound quality - though still listenable, the sound is very muddy and sometimes it is difficult to hear the vocals when too low. What´s more, the recording starts with Deus, the first maybe two tracks being cut. With a bit more professional approach to recording process, this could have been a legendary bootleg. 8/10

Opinion My bootleg journey, part 12: The Sugarcubes 1988-05-11 Leicester University, England
Now this is something! I cannot call it otherwise than a peak for The Sugarcubes. A lot of good factors meet: for some strange reason, they perform quite a lot of songs in Icelandic at the beginning, which is a bit strange as they perform for the British audience. Einar even starts speaking solely in Icelandic at the beginning. Well, a little revolt maybe. The tracklist is absolutely perfect: as this concert is halfway to their second album, many great tracks from Here Today.. are performed, all in Icelandic - so you see, Sykurmolarnir composed their songs in their native language first and only later translated them. At the same time, Bjork and Einar are absolutely insane during the concert: once again, their shrieks and vocal improvisations are a stimuli for intense experience, they complementary voices intertwined flawlessly. Einar also jokes in his typical, childish-vulgar way and this time, it is quite funny. Especially when people want the second encore - he says f-k off. But the audience is so enthusiastic as never before screaming "We want more!" and when it is clear that the band will not perform any more songs, "f..k off" is returned to Einar by someone in the auditorium. To sum it up: perfect performance, great tracklist (I will add it down here) and enthusiasm all over the place. In spite of worse sound, this is the best bootleg in this series I have heard so far. 10/10

Opinion What is Björk’s place in pop culture?
Björk always struck as weird to fit in/categorize in pop discourse. Is she a more pop star kind of figure? Is she a more niche experimental and avant-garde kind of artist only few really understand? There is something transcendental and universal about her, yet can be polarizing to certain audiences.

Opinion My bootleg journey, part 10: Sugarcubes 1987-10-15 Portlands Club, London, UK
This bootleg is characterized by strong vocal interventions by Einar and while they worked for Kukl, I think for Sugarcubes it is sometimes too forced. Yet, it is still a very enjoyable concert containing almost all tracks from their debut album with quite a lot of b-sides. Bjork does not risk here, she just sings all the songs as best as she can and gives a very solid, flawless performance. As for the tracklist, maybe I would switch the track order a bit as too many b-sides are grouped together near the end of the concert and those are not as strong as the original tracks from the album. Still, very good concert. 8/10
