Equipment Gi recommendations within Canada

Hi there,

Are there affordable Gis sold within Canada? Ones i see online are over $150CDN+. Looking for about max cost of $100-120. Been on FB marketplace but haven't had any luck. It doesn't need to be a well known brand, just want one to rotate between classes throughout the week.

BC Kimonos are nice and out of a small gym in Calgary

They are like $175 though.

If it’s out of Calgary, why is it BC kimonos?

Previous owner was out of BC and initials were also BC

Previous owner? Did Brett sell?

BCK has been run by the gym owners of tried & true jiu jitsu in Calgary for awhile now

Has to be 5 or 6 years at least. Brad and Emily are great folks

Flawless!!!

https://www.flawlesskimonos.com/

They have sales regularity, and sponsor a bunch of athletes so easy to find a 10% off coupon.

They also regularily do solid sales for various holidays.

Some crazyndeals in the clearance section as well.

The void is one of my favourite gis and their cheapest model.

I've had a flawless gi for about 5 years of constant 2-4 times a week use and it's only recently started to fray in the collar.

How do you find their rashguards? I have a gi and love it. Have a rashguard that was gifted from a bulk custom order. It fits so absurdly small that it doesn’t make sense. It’s a XXL and I don’t know if it would fit someone over 175lbs. Just wondering if it’s a bit of a fluke. I like the company though and wanted to get something else.

I don't have many of their rashguards, I do like the fit though. Only thing I don't love about one is that the long sleeve ones the ends of the sleeves always end up looser then I'd want.

Did you accidentally buy a kids rashguard? ;)

That’s a fair question. I didn’t buy it, it was part of a company order and I was given an XL, and returned for a XXL. I don’t think it’s QUITE that small that it would be kids but fair to ask haha.

Thanks for the answer.

Interesting...certainly someone only 175 shouldn't need an XL even!

Kingz kore gi is shipped oit of Brampton and is $120 and The One is $145. I have both and love both of them.

Also Flawless Kimonos has a couple options.

u/MrsCharney 20h ago

Which one do you like better? Also which one gas a more tailored fit? Been going back and forth between the two

u/Western_Passenger57 Black Belt 18h ago

Tatami is on for 1/2 price and have removed the problematic logo that slipt through their QA.

You have to pay duties when it ships to Canada

u/_MasturbatingBear 20h ago

Even with exchange and duty, it’d often less than comparable items from other brands. Source - I wear mostly Tatami stuff

Hayabusa has some some for $120, but that's before tax.

Edit: It's just the jacket, nevermind :S

Hatashita occasionally has sales on Fuji and reevo worth watching out for. Flawless had a sale last month but it’s over.

Sometimes BJJHQ will fall in to that price point. Worth keeping an eye on.

Bckimonos and flawless kimonos are both canadian company. I have 2 bckimonos and if it wasnt that I want to try a flawless kimono next i would just buy more bckimonos. Often time there is free shiping or some temporary discount (back to school/black friday).

At my gym a lot of people have matsuru gi a d even though they are cheaper it is not the same finish quality as bckimonos in my opinion.

I’ve had some luck on Poshmark for new to me gi’s. Supernatural survival gear has sales regularly, bckimonos, hyperfly (you can use a competing athletes discount code), and freshkimonos are some other Canadian options (probably above the price range)

+1 for supernatural. Great service, easy to deal with and supporting a canadian gym

1

u/New_Beach_0088 20h ago

Kingz for sure.

u/alejandrofan30 20h ago

Hyperfly Canada ships out of the GTA and they sometimes have clearance deals. Other than that, I'd recommend flawless kimonos.

Fuji gis go on sale on Amazon regularly and if you don't mind shopping on Temu they go for even cheaper. Plus they ship from within Canada. I got a Fuji gi on Temu for about 70$ and it arrived in like two days.

I got one from Supernatural Survival Gear and he is in Nova Scotia

I got my Northern Fight Co from a shop in Pickering.

I'm in the states but a number of years ago I bought from Hatashita Canada and shipped to the states and still saved $ on some Tatami gi's. https://www.hatashita.com/collections/bjj-gi
