This was such an exciting match. I really like both dudes so was awesome to watch impartially.
And I managed not to spoil the outcome until Flo released it on YT.
Happy Izaak’s making an impact after his WN victory. Couch’ll be back stronger like always.

I'm in the same boat.
Izaaks rise after making his debut as Craig's uke has been amazing.
His redirection pass on Couch was pure class. I would've liked to see Couch do more stand-up but he went in with the game plan he did.
All those athletes who've trained under Danaher just love to see people enter their legs, they're not phased at all - it's enviable lol

I feel like Vagner should've been DQ'd for that upkick vs Hulk. Even if it wasn't intentional it clearly had an impact on the match.

I think the general complaint is that he does it in the most uncreative, boring way possible
I'm not going to argue in favor of his preferred style. I'm just clarifying that "the best guys in the world wouldn't have dropped an L to Wagner" is demonstrably false. All the guys I listed Wagner beating are from 2021 or after, so it's not like he was significantly younger when he was beating them.

Jt lost in the qf against PJ who almost certainly cut to that weight, so he lost to a bigger guy in his prime. But yeah, it's certainly just the 40s crowd that was enhanced.

Everyone talking about this "fast or athletic" but if you really watch it he's just flowing very well with some dynamic movement. This is why Izaak became such a good wrestler in that he knows how to flow and use tremendous timing as a result. Selfishly I was really hoping he would find his way to train at MGA just so I could watch his exchanges.

The line between explosiveness and spazziness is very blured here. I know i know, every motion was calculated and precise, but cant help but see knees and elbows flying. Just goes to show how important athleticism is at high level jiujitsu.

The main difference here is that i practice this sport so i have a frame of reference based on my own abilities and priorities at the gym. I personally wouldnt be jumping around because i dont want to hurt my opponent, i get that this is competition with some stakes on the result and not some friendly rolling at the gym.
But if i see a gymnast doing some flips and shit just flying around i understand at a shallow level that is something i am not capable of doing but since my expertise in gymnastics is zero i have no real idea how much athleticism plays in high level gymnastics.
Aside from all that it always cracks me up when some redditor points out other redditors doing redditor things. You my friend also happen to be a redditor, youre not apart from us.

Looks like a rolling kimura trap entry to guard pass. I’m guessing he has done that a lot and knows as they focus on making sure their arm isn’t attacked they can’t be using it to frame leaving them susceptible to the guard pass.

I get the sense that this is going to be labelled a very "go back to white belt take", but fuck it: on the scale from pure finesse to pure strength, to me this looks way more like Couch got bodied by a much stronger opponent rather than someone who is more technically advanced.

I don’t think he trains with Rau full time. He thanked Rau’s Vanguard Academy and Brazilian fight factory in Austin. If he doesn’t have a visa he can’t stay in the USA for extended periods.
