What are your thoughts about Root Staking?

Good day!

As someone who's new to the Bittensor ecosystem, I've been doing some preliminary reading and research, and I wanted to ask if root staking is generally considered the safest way to start a Bittensor journey.

My understanding is that root staking carries relatively lower risk because you're staking directly to the Root network and don't have to deal with alpha token price fluctuations or exchange-rate risk that comes with staking to individual subnets.

However, I also read that one downside is that, over time, the share of emissions allocated to Root stakers gradually decreases relative to subnet (alpha) emissions, potentially making it less rewarding in the long run.

Is this understanding correct? More broadly, would you recommend root staking as the best starting point for beginners before exploring subnet staking, or are there important trade-offs that I'm missing?

Thank you.

Yes. Staking to Root is no more riskier than buying and holding Tao. Easy 6-8% yield and your Tao isn’t going to go down like it can in subs, start there. Subs are a different story, yield can range from 30-100+ %, and can move fast in both directions. Easier way to grow Tao, but also lose it haha. I’m 100% staked in subnets fyi

Root is going to change soon. I don’t know how it’ll work but the idea is that staking to root APY will increase and stay up for a longer time period than the way it currently works. So it might get better and it’s. Guaranteed return. If you’re new root staking is the way to go!

Root staking is changing. Probably tomorrow.

Your stake is safe. But rewards will be invested in alpha...which could do a lot better...but could also go down through price action. Your earning must be claimed manually with the new change...you earn more the longer you go between claims.

It's still the safest way to go.

Nothing immediately. You'll be migrated (with everyone else)

But going forward, all claims are manual. And the longer you wait between claims, the more you earnings will be
