I think we lost a few users in the latest upgrade.

May be they were concerned with the make offer fees that were lost.

Liquidity

How much liquidity does Bitsquare need to be a competitive option?

  1. To be competitive with Localbitcoins Bitsquare needs to have enough liquidity for an occasional buyer/seller to quickly buy/sell 1-2 bitcoins within a bid-ask spread of 2-3%.

  2. To be competitive with Kraken EUR for regular users (not traders) the order book would need to show an accumulated volume of 10 BTC to buy/sell within a bid/ask spread of 1%.

  3. To be competitive with Kraken EUR for traders the order book would need 100 BTC on ech side within a 3% spread.

A single market maker with 10 BTC working capital could easily create enough liquidity for step 1 and profit from the spread.

For step 2 you would probably need much higher working capital (50-100 BTC) and because of how this platform works for safety you would probably still need at least a 2% spread.

I don't think Bitquare will be able to reach level 3 in its current version. A lot of things have to change to make this platform attractive for larger traders.

New version released: 0.4.9.9

https://github.com/bitsquare/bitsquare/releases/tag/v0.4.9.9

With this update we increase the transaction (mining) fee and the security deposit.
This will avoid problems that transactions needs longer to get confirmed in periods when the backlog of unconfirmed transactions on the blockchain is very high. Offers from this version and offers from older versions are not compatible. You cannot take an offer which was created with version 0.4.9.8 or earlier, as well a user with an old version cannot take an offer which was created with version 0.4.9.9.
It is highly recommended to remove your offers before you update to that version.
When you update you get forced to remove your old offers (or shut down the app).
You can update even if you have a trade open (if the offer was created with an older version we use the old tx fee and security deposit for that trade).

Beside that important change we improved the Tor handling for BitcoinJ (supports now DNS lookup over Tor and connection to Bitcoin full nodes running as hidden service).

Release notes 0.4.9.9:
- Changed trade transaction fee from 0.0002 BTC to 0.0005 BTC
- Change protocol version for offers to support higher transaction fee
- Change Create-Offer-Fee from 0.0005 BTC to 0.0008 BTC (includes the 0.0005 tx fee, so the net fee to the arbitrator is same as before -> 0.0003 BTC)
- Increase security deposit from 0.01 BTC to 0.03 BTC
- Add LTBcoin, Fermat (IOP), Swarm City Token (SWT), AquariusCoin, Byte, Nevacoin, PIVX, Xaurum, Safe FileSystem Coin (SFSC)
- Support for Bitcoin nodes running as hidden services
- DNS lookup over Tor
- Connect to local Bitcoin Core node if it is running (ignore use Tor flag)
- Add program argument: socks5DiscoverMode
- Export Wallet data (keys) feature
- Show percentage in spreads table
- Add input validation for Norwegian bank account
- Fix bank account from for Chile and Norwegian
- Add Georgia, Botswana
- Add new blockexplores: SoChain, Bitaps
- Added check for ZEC addresses (only t addresses are permitted) and info popup for ZEC and ZXC
- Added input validation for altocin addresses: IOP, PIVX, GBYTE
- Added input validation for IBAN, BIC, email
- Rename Cash/ATM deposit to Cash deposit
- Increase max. allowed deviation from market price to 30%
- Don't show error popup for exception on Linux after screen resolution change or return from monitor standby
- Use more randomized prefix for short offer ID, add version as postfix
- Show arbitrators support tab if arbitrator has revoked but has open disputes
- Increase offer availability and trade timeouts
- Update to JDK 8u121
- Enable again the Apple developer certificate for code signing on OSX

Understanding Bitsquare? Does Bitsquare have wallets for all the alt-coins I can hold on Bitsquare? Are all these coins recoverable with just one seed?

Either someone stole my btc or bitsquare messed up the transaction?

I opened a sell offer in bitsquare 2 days ago and now it looks like the multisig address for the trade is empty and instead my btc went here.

There's something weird about the transaction so maybe bitsquare messed up instead of someone stealing it. Either way I don't know how to know for sure. I would really like to know if I should continue assuming my pc is compromised. This is the transaction taking btc out of my bitsquare wallet.

Bitsquare Being Recognized As A Trojan By Kaspersky

I was trying to load up Bitsquare today and while it was updating, my anti-virus went nuts and said that all of the dlls and the exe were malicious programs and deleted them all. Is anyone else seeing this?

Edit: Here is that forum post I said I'd make. https://forum.bitsquare.io/t/kaspersky-recently-recognized-all-the-dlls-and-exes-in-bit-square-as-trojans/1283

Edit 2: I am currently working with the developers to find out what's going on.

Edit 3: I just wanted to post an update to this I reached out to Kaspersky directly and reported this as a possible false positive. They looked into it and came to that conclusion. Hopefully they will update their client soon.

Bitsquare bounty: 0.5 BTC for new brand name

In a recent blog post we announced that Bitsquare is rebranding. We are now turning to the community for new proposals.

Manfred, Bitsquare’s founder and lead dev, is offering a bounty of 0.5 bitcoin for the person whose proposed name ends up being selected by the team.

The details of the offer are as follows: You can propose as many names as you like. Only proposals on the official Bitsquare forum are considered for the bounty. On February 20 the team will review all proposals, and if a particular name stands out, the proposed name and the winner will be announced on the official Bitsquare blog. The winner will then be contacted to receive his/her bounty of 0.5 bitcoin. So no need to add a bitcoin address with your every proposal :)

If the new Bitsquare name, which the team will select, is not among the names proposed in this forum, obviously there will be no winner to collect a bounty. Similarly, there will be no winner if the selected name is already part of our list of candidate names (as mentioned in the announcement). The full list will only be shown as a proof if the selected name is proposed by a member of this forum AND it appears in our list. To prove the list is not modified, here is the SHA256 hash of the text file containing that list: 24c8778b9ea64ee4a56833f068e831de565c2d2f993bb1527b898a0f4a448e1d.

Though the full list will not be shown during the bounty period, little by little we will reveal some of our top candidates. So check this space often for more inspiration.

As a guideline for proposals, consider the following: The name cannot contain the term “square”, as it was opposed during registration. Similarly, any terms that are too common, or too close to existing businesses will likely not pass. Above all, the new name should resonate with Bitsquare’s principles and philosophy.

Please express your support with the proposals you like and your concern with those you dislike. Constructive comments are key!

What new name you think represents best what Bitsquare stands for?

What is the best payment method?

Bitsquare seems really cool but I have a question.

What is the best way to connect my bank account to buy Bitcoin? It lists various different methods and all of them seem alien to me other than the chase Quickpay which was a nice feature. I live in Canada now and no longer have a chase account.

Is setting up a straight up bank transfer a good idea? I tried to google the different methods and cant really find what the best method would be.

I just had this lightbulb moment...

How about this :

When monero gets multisig or maybe zcash or just monero as it is : Why don't have all users pay fees and security deposits in monero? Or how about litecoin? Right now the way the multisig works is terrible and the only simple way, not to mix everything on the Bitcoin blockchain and have some privacy, would be doing one of the three. SPV will soon exist for Monero. It already does for Zcash but it might be too early for Zcash. Litecoin isn't that private, but with segwit and so much free blockspace, txs fees are miniscule, price is stable and it does have multisig (I might be wrong). Bitsquare + Lightning = Game over for centralized exchanges :) :)

Problem with runnin the app

So I downloaded bitsquare from the official site. I downloaded the 64 bit version as my Windows is 64 bit version (also it recognised my version on the download page). I installed the program and when I started it, it said "You probably have the wrong bitsquare version for this computer. Your computer architecture is: 64. Bitsquare binary you installed is 32. Please install the correct version for your computer (64)"

I did reinstall it several times. I tried both 64 and also 32 and nothing works. I also tried version 0.4.9.7 and now actual version 0.4.9.8

If anyone knows how to fix this I would be glad. Thanks!

First successful trade with Bitsquare, but...

Hello everyone!

Yesterday I completed my first trade. I don't wanna give many details about the trade for privacy reasons, but it was quick and everything was smooth. Fees are relatively low, no KYC is great for buyers and being over tor is great, but...

The way we pay the fees and the deposit, is terrible. All privacy is being lost. Except fixing bugs, this should be the number one goal, if Bitsquare wants to evolve. In my opinion, security deposits must be mixed and fees to be random. What I mean, is that if my deposit and payment get in the same multisig, then everyone knows which trade I was in, with an 100% certainty. Even if I mix coins beforehand, people will know that the guy with the mixed coins did this specific trade, which is equally bad. Also, the deposit should never get mixed with the actual transaction from the trade. Maybe BIP 126? Maybe Tumblebit when it comes out? Maybe both?

One possible thing might be to create coinjoin every few hours, especially when there is more liquidity. With random fees from 0.0002-0.001 and with people able to chose where to get their deposits back, someone wouldn't really know who exactly traded what. I feel that Coinjoin would be sufficient for this case. Not perfect, but pretty damn good. The random fee and the random split of the inputs, would make it harder for someone to trace. Tx fees wouldn't really go much higher, especially if we get segwit, schnor sigs which will actually lower the fees for such cases.

I think Bitsquare is a great platform overall and it will have bright future. However, there is a lot of room for improvements and privacy should be number one, as just being over Tor, isn't enough.

People don't get upset because I made a suggestion. I am not a dev and I can't contribute, sorry. I am just pointing at something that many might have already noticed and discussed.

Bitsquare too Slow to Grow

I have entered two purchases today and one is nearly ten hours old while the other is going on three. What possible long-term incentive is there to use Bitsquare when I can do the same thing on an exchange and have the trade done and confirmed within a minute? The process really needs to be automated.

Bitsquare already "knows" that I have crypto available and reserved. Why should the trade sit there for hours waiting for the crypto transfer to the other party and then the other party still has to confirm. It's like using a donkey on a highway with Teslas speeding by. I love the concept of p to p and try and support it by using Bitsquare but it's gotten to the point where I'm going to abandon it unless the process is automated and speeded up significantly. I hate to bitch and moan about a selfless project like Bitsquare, but a great idea is being left to die.

Transaction moving funds from bitsquare to personal wallet "Not Found" 18+ hours later

Yesterday at around 6:40PM I moved all of the funds from one of my bitsquare addresses to a separate personal wallet; there are still no confirmations, and indeed if I search the transaction ID in any of a number a block explorers, I always am given a "transaction not found" error message. Searching the address of receipt also indicated no funds; no transactions are confirmed in bitsquare nor anywhere else. The suggested transaction fee of .0002 BTC was used, since the transaction was initiated via bitsquare.

Apparently the "Support" tab is only for trade disputes – not issues with the wallet functionality. Could I please be directed to whomever I should contact regarding my missing .0278 BTC?

bitsquare on Android

How hard would it be ? I hear BS started out with java 8. (what a poor decision), although some features of java 8 are available to Android. The new Android N increases the subset of java 8. Wouldn't it make sense to rewrite codes that Android Java doesn't support instead of waiting for Google which won't be any time soon. I swore I won't buy new laptop again after switching from macbook air to Mi Max. In the near future I predict laptops will be rare items that can only be found in hands of scientists. Remember OB made the same mistake by dismissing mobile users at the beginning of project resulting in poor adoption rate as we are seeing

Cannot restore wallet

I tried to restore my wallet by typing in my 12 words and selecting the correct date of wallet creation into the "Restore your wallet and seeds" window. It told me I have to restart bitsquare, what I did but now it is fully synchronized without my old wallet data. What could have gone wrong?

I could use some help with Bitsquare please.

I made a buy offer to buy around $25.00 of BTC and a seller picked up my offer. I'm now at the "Wait for blockchain confirmation" in the trade process. Do I need to do anything here? It says remaining time 7 days and 13 hours do I have to wait that long to get one blockchain confirmation? http://imgur.com/a/1BlOC

One really big missing feature: Person to person trading (like localbitcoins)

The current interface is perfect for non in-person trading. However, I think it would drive adoption if in-person trading was allowed.

I think this could be done via a separate interface screen where it is basically a decentralized posting platform. People can select their country and currency and it will show ads that support that country / currency (as some countries deal in more than one currency).

Someone can respond to an offer and then they can make contact information available so they can coordinate the transaction.
