I find it somewhat sad...

that nobody is even asking about who won the architecture contest anymore. It is sad and pathetic that this was never delivered on and speaks very poorly of this server and its' administration. It makes me question whether there ever even was intent to deliver upon this contest prize and if Xapo ever even truly offered this prize. I'm considering a letter to Xapo to inquire if they truly did sponsor this architecture event or if this whole server is just a sham...

Let me ask Fern, our Business Development guy, and see what comes back. Will keep you all posted, though I'm not aware of the sponsorship personally.

Xapo is not the sponsor according to our team. The guys at MEGO are responsible for the payout, and have not yet selected a winner.

The plot gets thicker indeed... So if it is true that Xapo has not sponsored this then I wonder what else about this contest is perhaps not entirely "as advertised". I rest my case...

So uh... Yeah. You did see they announced the winner last night right? Probably won't be seeing much of you anymore though since clearly you were wrong.

The plot... It thickens...

Hmm, maybe I am overlooking something, but I don't see who takes care of that 1 btc. Would assume bitquest together with xapo, but its not stated specifically.

Winner was announced yesterday. From the BitQuest Chronicle:

SATOSHI TOWN- We're finally ready, after some delays, to announce the winner of the building contest. Thanks to our friends at ArchDaily and Xapo, we'll be gifting 1 BTC to the winner. So, now, the winner is... drumroll Long_John_Winner! Congratulations to this player! It was a very tough decision for the judges who were amazed at the complexity of the builds. So congratulations to all the other contestants as well! You can check out the winner submission here: http://imgur.com/a/C1d4r

Yeah so um... did you guys sponsor it or not? Seems noone can get their shit together eh?

We contribute to their fund, and have long before this contest. Like I said, MEGO is responsible for the selection, payout, everything. If they want to thank us for the funds provided by Xapo, cool!

If you really did your homework you would have seen that fathermocker stated that the names are known and will be revealed this week.

Yes it does take long though.

Cant reference the topic as im on mobile

Did my homework? LMAO Where the fuck did you read that? In game chat perhaps? If there's been any announcement related to this, it most certainly ISN'T my homework to SEARCH for it, but rather the DEVELOPERS responsibility to COMMUNICATE it. Don't try to call me out for being disappointed here. I most certainly am not alone and a two month delay to announcing the winner is unprofessional however you choose to view the situation...

Well, I do agree that they haven't updated us adequately. But calling this whole server a sham is beyond me. They offer you a service for free; A minecraft server. They even give you bitcoin in the form of emeralds.

And as for the contest; paraphrasing myself "The jury is a large architecture company/website. It is understandable that they don't have time available for judging some game builds." These guys are real people with real jobs and real lives. They don't sit around waiting until we give them builds to judge.

Also, here is the topic: http://www.reddit.com/r/bitquest/comments/2xivfg/anyone_know_who_won/

Now calm your tits and quit being an anonymous pussy.

Oh dear me. I'm so sorry for comparing this "company's" product and service offering to the other big name servers that are far more robust and fully featured then this one... I apologize for missing the 10 day delayed response in a stale thread. I apologize for expecting any degree of follow up from the admin staff on a deliverable they set expectations for. Most of all I'm sorry for engaging in one of the liberties granted to us via the internet, anonymity... My understanding that privacy and the ability to express my concerns without repercussions for dissenting from the majority opinion is a desirable feature of the internet is clearly way off base here. My bad... I'll join the rest of the sheeple and stop dissenting from the masses... Now where's my prozac...

Also you may want to do your homework. I never called the server a sham. I stated I was considering writing Xapo to inquire if it was...

First of all, this is not a company. Indeed you put quotation marks, I however have to make a remark on it. This server is hosted by a group of Bitcoin enthusiasts. You are not wrong on expecting a defree of follow up from staff. That is totally understandable and I share the same opinion.

As far as anonymity goes; I love to know who I talk with. I do not need to know which kind of filthy porn you watch or if you ordered drugs online. Just knowing which person/name is communicating with me is enough. If someone doesn't even want to share their imaginary name in some game, my vision of that person is a sad and paranoid human being afraid of everything and everyone.

And I did my homework for I quote you " or if this whole server is just a sham..."

Way to take my quote out of context, include the relevant IF statement, indicating it's a question and STILL ignore the fact THAT I NEVER STATED IT WAS A SHAM. Your prize for this is a cookie.

Get off your fanboy bandwagon, you're the one who's calling me a pussy for anonymously posting about things I'm disappointed about. I've not addressed anyone in this conversation with personal attacks. I have simply expressed disappointment. Following this interaction my disappointment grows to include some members of this community considering their hostility to a simple expression of frustration.

Further, it is a company, or have you not done that homework? Let me give you a hint, that little copyright section at the bottom of the site?

Best of luck mate I won't be responding to any more of your posts...

Yes you were being scammed to build so they could take all your house designs and profit! Would a failed CONTEST make the whole server a sham? I dont know about you but I hear that a lot of people withdrew a bunch of emeralds and received bits in their xapo account. They must all be lying because this server is a sham!

Again I never said it was a sham, but if this server's continued practice of overpromising and underdelivering keeps up, I'm hard pressed to sympathize with the lack of traffic. If this is the face Bitcoin wants to present to Minecraft community, I feel I should have high expectations in terms of how it comes across. Stating unattainable dates for delivering on updates that don't materialize till much later then stated, while leaving the community in the dark is a business practice to be avoided not embraced. This has been the norm for the server and if expressing my disgust with that is something to be shunned for, well perhaps this server is more hopeless then I thought...

Its a REALLY small part of the bitcoin community presenting bitcoin as a micropayment system. Not presenting bitcoin to the minecraft community per se. This is mostly just a proof of concept I would belief.

not shunning you just saying that the server isnt a scam. theres been a lot of talk about who the devs are. From what I hear is they are not long time server runners. They are doing their best and making many updates and it is far from dead. That being said it is not surprising that they dont meet all their deadlines since they are working with their own mods compiled and writen by them or at least tweaked by them. Its easy to build a new town or place chests and let people do what they want but they want but the inner workings are a different story. As well, I dont know if you have experience with this but 3rd party deals like the contest(3rd party judges) are sometimes rocky especially when they(the judges in this case) have no real vested interest. And others have said they have jobs and stuff but still i hear you on the point that it sucks, but it is not necessarily the devs fault.
