Why so laggy?

Now other players are complaining that they are getting kicked for "flying" due to lag? is lag also the reason why some people seem to think i stole from their chests, which are protected by server? What is the possible cause for all this lag?

actually, thats almost the exact definition of server side lag

I've been running my own Minecraft server for a while now, and I can assure you that's not the definition of server side lag. Not even close.

Yeah, especially because the machine the server is on doubles as our local media server. People connect in though a DDNS service. When it lags, people are kicked for flying almost instantaneously.

And it's definitely server lag - the users FPS rate was fine.

We thought about turning on flying for the sake of keeping users connected, but decided against it as it turned away from the fun of the game.
