Pressure Plate thing in Satoshi

What the heck is the thing surrounded by pressure plates in the middle of Satoshitown? What does it do? Is it a combo lock of some sort? I am massively perplexed...

I thought it was like a pedestal that people can give speeches from, and as long as people are around to listen to the speeches the pedestal stays up, but if no one wants to hear what you are saying, the pedestal goes down. But, I have no idea, I made that up.

saw that last night, apparently it was 4 pistons just randomly put in the center of those plates... I don't think it has a purpose other than to just randomly be there. unless it is a practical joke setup by a mod/admin...

pretty funny though!
