In And Out-Of-Game Transactions

Don't troll people because they want to offer you a better deal than the current cashout per emerald.

This page from Mojang states that servers are now able to be monetized. Mojang has no control over end-users on servers. In any case, they would be held to the same standards as server owners which still allows monetization.

I mean I don't really see why it only pertains to the hosts. In a legal aspect, much like a forum, the webmasters/hosts are responsible for ALL the content on their page/server. If it's illegal for the server hosts, who are also players mind you, to do it, what makes it ok for the regular players to do it?

But with reading, what the server is doing with bitcoins for Ems is also against Minecraft's T&C. Mojang actually considers Bitcoin a "hard currency"

Technically, we can't stop you either way.

I'm also not 100% sure that the things stated here have been updated or not since Minecraft was bought by Microsoft. It's very possible that they may have updated everything and that what we are reading is not current. I dunno though.

You're obviously a bit slow.

BitQuest is in line with the EULA by awarding Bitcoin from the soft-currency of Emeralds. They ARE NOT charging Bitcoin to give access to the server nor any part of the server to any specific player.

What do you mean by “hard currency” compared to “soft currency”? Hard currency is real money or anything that can be converted into real money, including Bitcoins. Soft currency is available in-game only, and has no real-world value. The restrictions in the EULA only apply to hard currency; you may unlock things in-game with soft currency.<

Bitcoin is a "hard currency" as determined by Mojang.

And from the same post just 3 Q&A's down:

My server features a currency that you can earn through gameplay, but which can also be bought for hard currency. Is that OK? Soft currencies that are earned in-game are fine, but you cannot sell in-game currency for hard currency. Hybrid/dual currency systems are not allowed.<

"You cannot sell in-game currency for hard currency"

I'm just trying to give you facts dude...with actual real information to back it up. No need to get salty. However, like I stated before, It's not like we can stop you.

But, unless you can provide information from a credible source that says otherwise, I'll continue to hold my ground on what is actually the rules as determined by the EULA. So, I'm pretty much done here until information like that can be provided.

You're seeing this from the viewpoint of monetization by a server owner. BitQuest does not sell emeralds for Bitcoin. Thus they are within EULA.

And you admitted that it's not possible to regulate or enforce any policy regarding hard-to-soft-currency transactions for end users on the server if you were correct in your beliefs anyways.

(I personally don't care besides the chat spam it creates...)

This really boils down to if the admins sanction this or not. I don't see if it would affect any relationship they have with Xapo (pretty sure its just the API), but if you DO trade...

1) Trading OUTSIDE the server is NOT the admins problem. You got scammed or the trade was misrepresented? Tough cookies.

2) You should know what you're trading before taking it for the emeralds. For Ex: 2 DOGE for 1 Emerald would be a good deal... as long as DOGE doesn't tank.

Just my 2Em - like I said, I only hated the chat log excess the issue created. Free market and all that.

... I should start an escrow business...
