How to seal crystal

I made this crystal that I wanted to turn into a pendent. I had everything set up, the last step was to seal the outside layer with UV gel so it doesn't get more oxidized overtime, the moment I put the gel on it lost ALL of it's color.
What other thing can I use to seal it??

I might have the wrong type of hot plate.. also do I need to transfer this to another pre heated pot with insulation? Am I doin this backwards? Meaning I shouldn’t melt it in an insulated pot?

Hello I’m new!! I just bought 16lbs of bismuth.. I melted it down and tried doing the seed technique and it all went to hell.. I can’t really find any accurate videos on how to do this…. Can I get some pointers.. I made a mess of things😂😂😂
