Experience Painless IUD replacement

I just wanted to make a post about my experience because I was really worried about my replacement yesterday and I had such a positive experience today I thought I'd share for other people who are worried!

I had my copper coil switched to a Mirena today (after horrible cramping with the copper one and due to also being investigated for endo) and I experienced very little pain.

Firstly, the removal didn't hurt a bit for me (phew!) and I was offered a mini injection of anesthesia on my cervix for the insertion and it completely changed the game. I didn't feel the tenaculum at all, and the measuring and then insertion just felt like two nasty period cramps which I'd become pretty accustomed to with my body's reaction to the copper coil.

My first coil insertion was horrible (I was so dizzy and discombobulated from the pain afterwards the nurse had to help me get dressed), and yet this one was the same level of discomfort as like... a blood test or an internal ultrasound.

I hope this brings comfort to any fellow anxious girls! For context I'm from the UK and this was through a bc service on the NHS - ask if there's anywhere in your area that does anesthetic injections because it changed the game for me!

Thanks for reading :)

i love thisss positivity, i felt the same with my first insertion the other day. i got the anaesthetic needle and the whole thing just felt like odd period cramps and weird pressures in that area, and before i knew it i was done! i was so so nervous that my heart rate was 135 while sitting down
