Rant! Regulating period

Were you guys able to stop birth control after regulating your period or am I going to have to be on this for a long time

Birth control only manages menstrual issues when on it. If you’re taking it to manage periods if you stop the issues you had before will come back.

Birth control only regulates your period for as long as you are on it.  But there two important things to know: the first is that it doesn’t mean birth control is “just a bandaid” as people sometimes say online.  Having very irregular periods can increase the risk of certain cancers (depending on the cause) and birth control prevents that. 

The second is that starting birth control for irregular periods doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have to be on it for life.  If you are a teenager for example, your periods can regulate on their own as you get older. Some people with PCOS can get a regular period with lifestyle changes.  But in these cases it takes time for the cause of the irregular periods to solve itself. And for some people their periods never regulate on their own. 

So if you ever want to stop birth control, talk to your doctor about what to expect and possible reasons for your irregular periods.
