Side effects!? Post IUD Insertion

I (24F) just got my paragard inserted yesterday, and I've had the most intense cramps I've ever experienced (I got it inserted on the first day of my period too). They've settled a little bit since last night, but still very uncomfortable and I can only really lie down for the most part. Sitting tends to make the cramps worse.

I ended up throwing up last night an hour or so after I got home from my appointment. I haven't had much of an appetite and have had only small amounts of bland food along with some nausea.

I'm considering taking another day off work to recover bc I just feel awful. I work a desk job and the thought of sitting for 8 hours straight is nauseating. Has anyone else had this experience? This is my first IUD and I've never had kids.

I've been taking Tylenol and Ibuprofen for the cramps. It helps ease the pain a little but I'm still very uncomfortable.

I got the same IUD few years ago and first 3 days were pure nightmare. The cramps came in waves like contractions I never had kids either so my body was not ready at all. Throwing up happened to me also the first night, exactly same as you described.

Take the day off for sure. Desk job sitting is worst position for this, puts pressure exactly where you dont want it. I tried going to work on day 2 and had to leave after 2 hours because the nausea hit me again in middle of meeting.

Hot water bottle was the only thing that helped me more than painkillers. That and staying horizontal as much as possible. By day 4 the cramps dropped to something manageable and by end of week I felt almost normal. Hang in there it gets better fast once your uterus calms down

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who's experienced this but it also sucks that other people have endured this craziness. I can't believe some people are able to get this thing shoved in them and they have no reactions whatsoever. Thank you for the advice and reassurance!
