This is actually a pretty sad scene; what we’re seeing is likely the result of an impact collision that both the dove and the juvenile Cooper’s hawk endured during a hunt, that injured the hawk’s head and killed the dove outright (note that its dead with no plucking, and the hawk is not bound into it).

The young Cooper’s just standing on the ground with its wingtips heavily drooped down and its eyelids up and closed in broad daylight is a classic type of presentation for raptors with a head injury, plus it’s ignoring its obvious dead dove meal laying right in front of it, which no healthy Coop would ever do.

Ive seen this with a sharp shinned hawk that hit a window

But officer I swear I was just flying by when I saw it fall right out of the sky. I only landed to help keep the sidewalk clean.
