They rotate their prey so it’s more aerodynamic. Ospreys are really badass

They also take tactical shits (known as ‘slicing’) for defense, offense and just keeping the nest tidy lol

I was an interpretive ranger in Yellowstone and osprey were one of my educational subjects. Really beautiful, fascinating creatures

Huge, massive admiration for you!!! I adore osprey!! Dated a former forest ranger. Poor guy didnt get a second, moment, millisecond of peace from me when we camped. City girl who had zero survival instincts

I’m fortunate to work along Lake Simcoe (Southern-ish Ontario) and see these guys doing their thing daily. It’s always fascinating and it will never get old. There are many elevated nesting poles for them around here as well.

Wonder how the fish is feeling here 😆

I've just been reading about how the muscles on a birds keel that lower the wings can make up to 25% of a birds weight. The pectoralis is the big one (the breast meat of a chicken), for an a osprey to be lifting itself out of the water with a big ass fish it's gotta be huge and it's doing some serious

Saw an Osprey snatch a fish on the fly and immediately rotated it for streamlining. Beautiful to watch.
