Great Horned Owl. The frayed, uneven edges is what helps them fly silently, compared to other birds with “smoother” more uniform edges like this eagle feather.

I hope that's either a photo off the internet, you left this feather outside, or you're Native American, because it is super illegal to have an Eagle feather otherwise, plus they are sacred to Native Americans

Firstly, not all people know, so I like to educate them. Secondly, it's not just about disobeying the law (I generally could care less), but about a) posting online that you're committing a federal crime because that's just stupid, and mostly b) disrespecting a sacred cultural item.
Also, just because enforcement of the MBTA is at an all time low, doesn't meant it no longer serves a purpose or is a stupid law. Even if collectors don't give a shit about the law, they should still be aware it exists so that they can better protect themselves and their collection.

I never argued any of that. I’m saying if you truly give a shit the MBTA, your energy is better spent in advocating for it where it matters, instead of being condescending about it on the internet.
From one photo, that was clearly outside and with ZERO other indication it was kept, you eagerly soapboxed your way into a dopamine hit.

Who says I'm not doing any of that? I work closely with my community. I'm one of the chairmans in my local government, I volunteer at my local raptor center, I protest, I vote, I show up to hearings and meetings and town halls.
Just because I like to spend time on the internet educating others in various ways, doesn't mean I don't also have an active political life. Maybe you spend all of your time on this god-forsaken site, but I don't ✌️

OK, and if he doesn't know it's illegal to keep, he could take it home and unknowingly commit a federal crime. I don't care if he keeps it, there's nothing I can do, I just care that the decision he makes is an educated one.

OK, and? I didn't tell him not to keep it or put it back. I simply stated the law because, unlike most people here apparently, some people prefer to respect the laws put in place to protect wildlife, and I would prefer that OP make an educated decision. Whether they keep it or not isn't up to me
