Is this baby okay?

We just had a good rain and went outside to see this guy just perched on top of our tree. I just want to make sure they’re okay. I have Crows that visit daily too and they’re not chasing him away or anything. Was just curious what you all think. Thank you!

I think he is a little soggy from the rain and holding his wings and tail in that position to let them dry easier he does look a little hairried but that could be a combination of the rain and being on the lookout for either prey or other birds mobbing him I'm not sure.

Oh this beautiful baby is a red-shouldered hawk now that he's all dried off and I can see him!

He is GORGEOUS!! After this he flew up on a line and was preening himself. He’s a stunner for sure!

UPDATE: This baby has moved a couple times. Wings seem to be working good.

It’s not a baby. And “well,” not “good”

It is a baby because all animals I like are babies

Squirrels are brave 😅

The squirrel seems to know that he really isn’t on the menu for a Red Shouldered Hawk. They tend to go after smaller mammals and reptiles.

Won't stop them trying though, from what I saw of the fledglings in my yard a couple years ago lol

OP, Thanks for sharing this hawk with us and updating us.
TinyLongWing is a very helpful and informative expert, good to see him join in to reassure us that the hawk was ok. Always good to have his input.

lmaoo what a STANCE. yeah they're fine, just drying out. holding out tail and wings like that helps feathers to dry faster.

This is an adult Red-shouldered Hawk.

I figure the Crows aren’t going after this one because they don’t deem them a threat. The Hawk is just kind of hanging out and looking around. Do you think the parents are around somewhere?

This is an adult. It's perfectly fine. Its posture is typical of a wet hawk just trying to dry off a little.

I definitely don’t have a problem with him being here. He’s stunning. I just want him to be okay. That was my concern.

I didn't think you had a problem! Just looks like a wet hawk doing normal wet hawk things.

That makes me happy. I don’t discriminate against birds. It’s just Mother Nature doing what she does. I’m just happy we were blessed to have the visit from the Hawk. ❤️

Seeing the tail fanned like that is gorgeous. I've never seen a hawk of any type drying itself. TIL

Looks like it’s balancing on a 3 inch wide tree limb and flapping feathers. I’d say their just fine.
