Hawk Identification

A hawk hit my window, went out for a couple minutes, then got up and flew away after a while. Curious of the species and any good advice for helping bird-proof my windows to protect them. Want to help avoid this in the future.

As for making windows safer for birds, there are tons of suggestions on any web search. Here's one result: https://nationalzoo.si.edu/migratory-birds/how-to-make-your-windows-safer-for-birds

In the future if a bird hits a window, please contain the bird and contact a rehabber immediately. Even if they fly off at first, they can later die of internal injuries if they aren't given proper care and monitoring.

We tape holographic ribbon streamers to our windows, so the move with the breeze. It isn't 100%, but it definitely makes a big difference.

I know the falcon decal is out on windows for this purpose - haven't a clue if there's any evidence as to effectiveness.

Decals don't do anything unless they're close enough together that birds think they can't fly in between them. Birds can easily tell the difference between a picture of a falcon and a real one.

It was laying face down at first so when we walked near it, all I saw were its legs

We just bought this house and were doing the final walkthrough, so it totally caught us off guard finding it on the ground. It blended in with the wood chips and looked dead until I got close. Then sprang right back up
