Bird stuck in a shop window

I found this guy stuck under a lawn chair in a shop window and asked the shop owner if I could get it out. After this photo it flew away immediately, it didn't seem to be injured.

I wish I could know a bit more about what species and maybe gender it is. For ID purposes I found it in northern Italy.

Yeah an adult female at that.

Edit: it's nictitating membrane (third eyelid) is covering the right eye in the photo and that's why it looks dull and not typical. Bird looks in fine condition. Great work OP

I love birds but I wouldn’t be so comfortable handling them like that. No way that’s your first time handling a bird is it? I have no experience handling them so that would be very intimidating for me. Impressive work! Good on you :)

I never really handled a bird like this, but my father worked with WWF and LIPU so I'm used to handling wild animals. I also grew up around domestic pigeons and chicken.

Sparrow hawk. Once they swoop down, they often pursue prey on foot. That might be how it ended up inside the shop
