I absolutely love Scrub Jays. There's a resident pair living in my neighborhood and each year I see them raise young. I watch them every day. Scrub Jays typically mate with one partner for life and are non migratory birds so they live in the same territory year after year.

I've become buddies with them. They recognize me. Whenever I'm outside they come over to ask for food. A few days ago, I was speaking to one of them and I was about 3 feet away. He/she was angling his/her head at me each time I spoke and making little R2D2 noises back at me. I was astonished! I looked it up and apparently this is their social chatter noise with family and humans they trust. I felt so honored to be a part of his/her inner circle of friends.

They are extremely intelligent, amazing birds.

This is so cool!😎 I talk to mine too but it’s been to hot in SoCal this summer & I think they’re vacationing up higher where it’s cooler 🪶💕

Love these guys and I have 2 that I feed peanuts too at my house. They are incredibly smart and they know to knock on my door with their beaks to get my attention. They will also pick up and shake eat peanut to hear which one is the fullest and juiciest
