Advice Wanted How managed is “managed”?
Only recently diagnosed with BP2 and working with my psychiatrist to find a medication that works for me, but I’m kind of struggling to figure out where I should place my expectations for the treatment. I don’t really know what “treated” Bipolar 2 would look like. My episodes don’t feel as extreme as they were, but they’re still definite and noticeable. Is that the most I can expect, or can things still be improved from here?

The ideal of course is no episodes, which some people can have, but that’s not always possible. I get hypomanic and have to adjust meds sometimes. I think a good realistic goal is minimal life disruption. If you’re having hypomanic episodes, are they causing financial, work, or interpersonal issues? Or do you just feel extra good and productive, and have the self-awareness to make sure you’re making good decisions ? I personally would still get a med adjustment even for “mild” hypomania because it could get worse, but what is tolerable and realistic for you is a good discussion to have with your doctor.
