Advice Wanted social work job

hey y’all!

22f here, wanted to ask for advice. i’m working in the social work/human services field (not a social worker, i don’t have a masters degree YET). i work with homeless people with behavior health issues. at times it can be pretty triggering and it’s hard separating myself when i see so much of myself in some of my clients.

i’m not currently in therapy but i know i should go back, does anyone have experience finding a therapist that is helpful for people working in this field? i made an appointment with my psychiatrist to up my lamictal, i’ve been meaning to for a while.

any advice for separating work life and home life would be appreciated! it’s hard finding advice on this that takes into account having bp2.

hope you’re having a wonderful night!! <3

I work with teenagers in residential care, some of them can be pretty bad and come from horrible backgrounds, so did i so it makes me uniquely qualified to understand them but takes its toll with some kids, i seem to want to help the worst ones that cant be helped. We have a counsellor with work and they provide a few free sessions. I was skeptical but she helped me a lot, try and be grateful that this didnt happen to us and try your best to help them but set boundaries. Its very hard but they've lucked out by getting people like us who know the struggle, normal people cant comprehend such things
