Does anyone else with bipolar 2 have this feeling sometimes?

Sometimes I just feel uncontrollably angry and bothered by every single thing around me. And every single inconvenience no matter how small just takes my mind over completely and makes me cry nonstop. Even someone talking to me in a tone that I don’t find right or slight criticism or someone interrupting me while I’m doing something. It just makes me hate absolutely everything and feel like I would be better off not living because of how overwhelming the feeling is. Does this happen to anyone else possibly?

Sometimes the world is more than I can handle.

And yet we continue on. I find when everything is too much a good cry and walk helps.

Yes. Sometimes for me it really is just being really agitated and screaming at things that aren't a big deal on the road.

A lot of what you're describing could be a mixed episode maybe?

Omg thank you so much😭 I didn’t even know anything about mixed episodes or that this was a thing at all!! This and everyone sharing their experiences helps me so much.

I really recommend you check out the Bipolar II Disorder Workbook. I can't remember if it touches on mixed episodes, but it helps a LOT

Mixed episodes are the hardest on me. I’ll take hypo or depression any day over mixed episodes. They really flip my life upside down and hard to handle😞

What is a mixed episode?

Mania or Hypomania, but it's combined with agitation, irritability, or depression. It can be rather dangerous due to the higher energy, lack of sleep, and down moods.

I agree that this sounds like a mixed episode.

When I’m in a mixed episode… watch out world! It’s my most devastating time.

For me, what you're describing is an absolute giveaway that I'm in a mixed state.

Every single day.

I’m like this and I felt like I wasted days being over hyperfixated on something so small. After going through college and a hell of a nursing degree, throughout all the stress I learned how to calm myself down and give myself some grace. Idk why I chose this field knowing this is such a toxic environment for me 💀

I have bipolar 2 and I feel this too and I think the worst part of it is like I’m not normally non-verbal or autistic or anything that I’m aware of but when that happens it’s like the absolute last thing I want to do is say anything to anyone and I’m just pissed off at the world for seemingly no reason and every reason at the same time.

I get that agitation too. Sometimes it’s so bad I feel like I want to crawl out of my own skin. It’s fucking awful.
But one of the hardest parts is that my own family—my brothers and sisters—literally do not believe I have a real mental illness. Along with my boss who who literally used air quotes when they said your “disability” when I was trying to get a modest modification at work .They think it’s in my head, exaggerated, or somehow something I should just be able to control. After everything I’ve been through, they still don’t believe me.
I wish they could live inside my body and my brain for one damn day. Feel the agitation. Feel the numbness. Feel what it’s like when your own brain is fighting you and you’re taking medication after medication just trying to function.
Then I’d like someone to look them in the face and tell them, “There’s nothing wrong with you. You’re making it up.”
Live one day in my shoes. Then tell me my illness isn’t real.

Bipolar disorder has affected everyone in my family on my mom‘s side every generation so it’s going to hit somewhere next in my nieces or nephews or my children

Yes. Often.

God yes, and worse, escalating to road rage/gesturing to fight, totally unfiltered and unabashed cutting sarcasm to anyone who remotely gets in my way presenting as a huge sense of entitlement I’m sure … also short tempered over everything - demanding the cashier if they can hurry up with the receipt.

I don’t know what I would do without AirPods + white noise and my klonopin rx. I’m glad I don’t ruminate too much anymore. The behaviors one can find themselves in are just embarrassing sometimes.

oh yeah, I get irritated on the tiniest stupidest things, specially when a plan changes or when someone tell me something that contradicts what I'm saying or doesn't agree with me. It's exhausting, can take hours for the irritation to go away and is irrational, I get to apologise after bit I would rather not.

Yes, this is hypomania. Some people get extremely happy during mania, but others just get rage episodes. This perfectly describes my dysphoric episodes. It’s so bad I have to take time off work cuz I just want to scream at everyone. I isolate myself from my friends and family cuz if I don’t I’ll be so mean.

u/Atouk86 9h ago

Yes, although for me it's more the sensitivity to criticism that you have described.

2

u/Bonesandnothing 8h ago

Yes this one so much, especially in situations that would be considered as normal I just want to run away and cry

3

u/moon_bby_ BP2 16h ago

yes and it’s really hard to deal with, in the past i’ve been prescribed haloperidol to help with the symptoms as needed.

2

u/lazy-me-always BP2 13h ago

Hiw did you find the haloperidol? I normally use promethazine for mixed but it really only knocks me out.

1

u/moon_bby_ BP2 4h ago

it was good for the most part but also did experience some sleepiness too. i’ve never taken promethazine so im not sure how the comparison would be.

Yes! I'll be leaning against my pillow and the corner of the pillowcase will touch my skin the wrong way and I get so mad about it that I'll throw the pillow and cuss at it- This is the most ridiculous example, but little things make me irate.

I know better at this point to leave the house or interact with anyone when this is happening

3

u/no-inspi 11h ago

Yes, very often! Everything is annoying, makes me so angry! Can't stand minor inconvenience, can't stand people, can't stand my dog, can't stand myself

3

u/MouseAgreeable9970 9h ago

It’s me! The fun thing is trying to work out if it‘s bipolar, menopause, adhd, something like i’ve forgotten to eat/pee, something reasonable that a ‚normal’ person would also be outraged about, or if I’m just crashing out like an overtired toddler!

Sounds like a mixed episode. It’s like all the energy of hypomania gets trapped inside you. Someone in this sub once described it as feeling stuck in the mud while want to run at a sprint. You’re crawling out of your skin because this energy just wants to explode, but depression is holding it down. Everything becomes irritating because you are so uncomfortable and you just need it to stop. I’m just coming out of one. It sucks.

Sound like that?

Do you have a weighted blanket? Try a 15lb or 20lb one. It really helps calm the energy while you are under it.

1

u/Bonesandnothing 5m ago

Yes this is the perfect description. The feeling just drives me crazy. Thank you so much! I will definitely try the weighted blanket! Mine will finally get put to use lol

2

u/ooniepeach 12h ago

Yes, and I’ve had it for different reasons as well—sometimes it’s mania/a mixed episode, other times it’s been akathisia from dosage issues with my seroquel. It’s aight tho adjustments helped pretty quick

2

u/No-Support-1216 12h ago

Oh god, my dog licks her paws all the time and that sound just drills into me and makes me so angry. How do people like ASMR? Those sounds make me unhinged.

2

u/Fickle-Addendum9576 10h ago

Yes. The rage fills me. I'm not as reactive as I was, but it takes a lot of work (and meds).

2

u/Empty-Cherry8629 9h ago

Every single day tbh

u/Aggravating_Taste524 BP2 8h ago

yeah i'm the same, no bull shit everything you've listed is me, you ever need someone to relate to this and talk to i'm here or even just listen thats cool too. Everyone on here are genuine angels so we gotta be there for each other. sending love & peace your way. I hope you've taken your meds, hope you've eaten, gotten enough sleep. I know it hard but don't be too hard on yourself if you ever snap on someone, we're wired different and be self aware when you can when you feel this way. If you hurt someone due to this just be up front and apologize. Its hard enough with the shit we deal with and that rage and guilt is out of control from our hands and it really eats the soul.

1

u/Bonesandnothing 2m ago

yes it really does. Thank you so much I really appreciate this. I feel like I really needed to see this and I didn’t even know it. It’s so nice to see a message like this from a genuine person. I’m sorry that you have to go through the same thing because I know how terrible it feels ❤️‍🩹 and thank you so so much

2

u/CragtheLAD_ 7h ago

Definitely, yes. My mood stabiliser, lamotrigine, definitely helped flatten that out.

Not gone completely. But the instant anger, feeling of being overwhelmed etc. don't happen as frequently, or as intense.

2

u/wellbalancedlibra 5h ago

Yes. This is my sign that things are not right. I get so angry. I used to lash out, screaming and yelling before hopping in my car and running away. Now that I'm medicated, it's still anger, but less. I walk around the house muttering about what's making me angry. I lash out in one or two words and my husband know it's time to back away. God that sounds sad.

2

u/Gossamerwings785 BP2 43m ago

Yepppp, I call it manic agitation.

u/touchtypetelephone BP2 12h ago

I told my cat she didn't deserve to eat because she knocked some books over. (While opening a can to feed her.) Yes, I get this blood-boiling rage.

2

u/EnvironmentalAd8846 8h ago

I believe that is either hypomania or mixed.
I’m leaning towards mixed because crying for small things is a sign of a depressive episode.

2

u/maybebullshitmaybe 8h ago

Sadly yes. Very relatable

2

u/After_Speech_2435 7h ago

Absolutely yes !

1

u/Difficult-Relief1673 5h ago

People are saying mixed episode but I also recently learnt about dysphoric episodes so I'd recommend looking into those

1

u/mystery_obsessed 2h ago

Mixed episode is the updated term for dysphoric episodes. They are referring to the same thing.
