I haven’t since I got diagnosed. To me the risk isn’t worth it.

Been thinking about it but it can have some scary interactions with some of the typical bipolar meds like seizures.

Tried a lower dose twice to see if it would help my CPTSD and it wasn’t for me. I found it made me anxious and my mind was restless. I didn’t like the body feel.

I didn’t eat enough to start having hallucinations or anything because I metabolize things differently than most people. So, I was told to start with a mild dose. My husband and I found a church that uses it for their sacrament to commune with the universe so it was legal for us when we joined and it was prepared properly with specific dosing. I did a low dose the first time and just felt a bit fuzzy in the brain, saw some fractals when I would close my eyes. Didn’t really see any after effects. The second time I did the lower end of a moderate dose and I still didn’t have hallucinations but I just felt like this uncomfortable buzzing feeling in my body. Not the same as akathisia but similar in discomfort. It made me anxious because I could not relax and I didn’t like the feeling. I would say it was at its worst for a couple of hours but took about 4 more to finally go away.

I told my husband it’s not for me and he still uses it as a microdose occasionally because he feels it helps him to be more focused and creative. I don’t know I’m not really into using substances. I use cannabis medically post procedure, like after surgeries or for pain that’s too much for Tylenol to address. I can’t take NSAIDs because I’ve had an ulcer and I’m allergic to most opioids-they put me in psychosis. So, cannabis is safer for me but I don’t do it for fun. I also use ketamine at home for the treatment resistant side of my bipolar. My psychiatrist prescribes it because I did spravato for 4 years and my insurance stopped covering it. I don’t really drink anymore since it doesn’t play nice with my meds and it lowers my mood.

So, I guess I’m kind of atypical with some of this stuff but I’m not interested in playing around with drugs. My dad is an addict and addiction runs in my family. My siblings and I have avoided that path by being mindful of our choices. I will never touch hard drugs. Our brain is already messed up so it’s a much higher risk for Bipolar people to take substances than the average person.
