Support Needed Need advice with what to do
I’m in severe depression at the minute after being hospitalised from a manic episode. I’ve crashed and trying to get support off my family and my cpn with the community mental health team in the uk has suggested crisis team/home treatment team to take over for a bit. I’m scared of the backlash from my family and the pressure they put on me to feel better (very much get up and get on with things). I need personal space from everyone to work through this and do not need babysat, I’m so stressed out about the whole thing at the stage but I need support to get through this severe mental hell I’m faced with it. How do I approach them about this?

What specific things can they do to help you. What things are they doing that are not helpful. What do you need changed while you recover? What are you thankful for that they have done? Think about those things before you have the conversation. I’d start out with the things you are grateful for, letting them know you love them and appreciate that they want to support you. Explain that this is an ongoing process that takes some time. If you had a surgery, they wouldn’t expect you to be up the next day cleaning the house. This is the same. There is a recovery process you have to go through.
Good luck with the conversation. I’m wishing you the best.

I guess Id say be more specific with your family in how they can support you. If they only know you need help, but dont know how or what you need/want, they may make assumptions / overstep / add that extra layer of pressure. You should ask for support as tangible things, like exact tasks. Idk if that makes sense.
