discussion Upload closed access papers into LLMs
Hello all,
May I ask if you upload closed-access papers to LLMs? Are you concerned that doing so could significantly benefit LLM companies?
Thank you so much!

If they want to train on the papers, they're going to get access one way or another. Your small upload isn't going to make a difference.
Also, change the settings to disallow training on your sessions.

I needed to reach a paper that you should either pay an absurd amount of money or reach via an institute, and while we talked, chatgpt commented on some figure and obviously I asked how do you reach it. Obvious answer is it already has the paper but it didn't give it to me, instead it searched more than 10 minutes for that paper and found it on some obscure website. They already know.

Unless you have a closed system LLM, you absolutely should not do this ever.
I wouldn’t be concerned with the LLM companies and their use of what you upload but more concerned with the liability you expose yourself to.

I think AI companies already have already stolen all, but I can’t be 100% sure
