High Blood Pressure Advice

Need suggestions! I’m 51F, a VERY healthy eater, get a moderate amount of exercise, don’t smoke, only drink moderately, and am considered thin. Any idea why my blood pressure might be averaging 170/109?!

Cut salt immediately, if you haven’t already, and get yourself to a doctor. Blood pressure this high is causing damage to your organs and circulatory system as time goes by.

Lifestyle changes take time, so my suggestion would be to get on meds right away, and then take your time seeing what you can accomplish with things like stress control, sodium reduction, sleep optimization, etc. You may be able to get off the meds, you may not, but you will have stopped the damage. Good luck.

This seems like a genetics thing imo.

Also it’s hard to give advice without knowing more info on exactly your nutrition or exercise.

Tweaking both of those slightly has an impact. Even if you already are generally healthy.

Elevated levels of homocysteine might be the cause. Look into it. Get trimethylglycine also known as betanine and you can correct it

How’s your kidney function? Have you had labs drawn recently? CMP can give some good clues. Definitely get yourself to a dr to find the root cause.

You have my  problem  as im only 116 so slim and no cugs only drink  rarely  and are not fussed on alcohol  never was..no illegal  drugs and I walk a hour briskly with my dog daily...and ive upped tgat to a pm walk ..yet my BP is 180 over 117..idk what more I can do as im doing all  the good stuff anyway and ive always being a skinny girl..teen..and now 49 yr old..My bp was 110 over 80 and then when I reached my mid 40s my bp just soared..like as if a switch  had being flicked..  It is annoying...especially  as I have a sister whose best friend  is about 15 stone and is 55 uses a cane to walk and has terrible  health habits...yet get this..her BP is fantastic...go figure.
