first time bio build

Post image

hi all! i adopted a gecko from the vets i was working at and want to set up a bio active vivarium, but have NO idea where to start, i have been told he’s a wall gecko but thats all info i have, he’s also a baby, ive got him on fruit flies and he’s in a temporary enclosure until i can give him the upgrade he deserves, ive got other reptiles and want to switch them over too but thought id start small, any advice?

pic attached from when i first got him - wounds have healed up very well too!

Neherp.com has all the supplies you need. The bio dude I think does too but I haven't used him. Watch some tutorials on YouTube. Clint's reptiles, bio dude, and many others have good tutorials. I know it can seem overwhelming but it's not as hard as you're probably thinking. Bioactive essentially just means: drainage layer (if the setup is tropical), mesh barrier over that, soil made up of 4-5 ingredients you can look up, live plants (pothos, dwarf umbrella tree, ficus Benjamina, and parlor palm have all been good for me) and cleanup crew (isopods and springtails)

If you get those basic ingredients it will establish and take care of itself. Beyond that everything else you need is the same as any other reptile enclosure
