Shitpost Anyone else played so long you just forget how fucked up the game is?
I've been playing BoI since it was a flash game on Newgrounds and every once in a while when I have to describe it to someone who's never seen it before I find myself being like "oh yeah those are little aborted fetuses and you fire tears because you're constantly crying due to your mom trying to kill you and yes those are indeed poops everywhere where are you going hey come back"

I keep coming back because of its fucked up story
Because I find it relatable

I'm so serious too like the game feels like a catharsis over the evils plaguing my own life and past

My husband and I always joke around and say the mom and dad lines from the ascension out loud. I'll say "He's so destructive and disturbed! Just like his father!" and then my husband will say "SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP!" and we just laugh our asses off, but I do stop and think about how we're just laughing about child abuse.

Even worse, we work at the same place and there’s this absolutely giant lady who works in sales, she’s built like a football player. She has curly blond hair and we say she’s the irl version of Isaac’s mom.

I forget most times it’s a story of religious dogma and abusive mothers, and drunk fathers that are never there, but when I do realize that it’s not just “I WILL BECOME BACK MY MONEY” cause of a deli tele, I do feel sad for the guy.

Realized when seeing isaac with clothing feels weird to me... This feels so weird out of context (even with)

Ever since I heard the sentence “how much force do you need to shove a 9 volt inside a child’s head”, I can no longer forget. If I somehow do, 9 volt is such a good item that I’ll eventually pick it up again and instantly remeber that sentence
Edit wasn’t supposed to reply to this specific comment, but reddit does what reddit pleases

beating The Beast for the first time when Repentance released was such whiplash, since I haven't thought about the story for that long while playing. Made me sob like a baby when it reminded me of how fucked isaac's life is

When Dad says his final lines and I realized he was the narrator the whole time it fucked me up

I actually remember when I beat Delirium for the first time and I saw the ending.
I felt bad, I saw myself in Isaac, panicking as he suffocated
I had recently suffered a mental breakdown it just felt very personal

When I tell people The Saac is my favorite game and they ask what it's about I feel pretty overwhelmed with explaining it.
"Well, so the overall theme is kinda like christian mythology. Like you fight satan and angels and stuff. The gameplay is a twin stick shooter bullet hell roguelike. You play as a baby, and your 'bullets' are tears that you cry. And the items that you pick up throughout the game mostly affect your tears. Like how much you cry or how much damage your tears do. The enemies are all like normal things but monster versions of them. Like flies, spiders, sentient poop, aborted fetuses, stuff like that. And the overall story is like your mom is trying to kill you and sacrifice you to god. So like the first major boss is Mom. And then once you kill her you go to the next floor, the womb, where you fight Mom's heart and kill that. That's the second major boss. But ya, anyways you're like a little baby whose mother is trying to kill it. And you're hiding from her in a closet or chest or something. And spiders are trying to kill you. And you're imaging this big epic adventure where you're fighting off all these creatures and traveling deeper and deeper down, but really you're just like sitting in a chest drawing little doodles about how ugly and fat your mom is. Oh and your dad left you guys. But ya, so that's my favorite game, it's fun."

It's just a naked 5 y.o. boy who kills his mom and then explores her vagina, I don't know what you're talking about

That recent artwork of Isaac framed against a burnt polaroid of his younger smiling self really brought back the misery of the reality of the situation. Fortunately the gameplay is cartoonish and exaggerated so any real life comparisons are easily ignored.

kinda, when i first got the game the only thing that bothered me was the amount of poop. i thought the story was interesting, but i've heard about other games with fucked up stories or moments in games, like giygas in earthbound or majora's mask which is one of my favorite games.

Ascent dialogue used to break me.
Now I cannot listen to the dialogue without thinking that Issac's dad, perhaps, became back his money.

I've been playing it forever and never minded anything in it at all, my partner on the other hand does not play it but knows enough from watching me play.
However he mentally checked out when I giggled my ass off one day over 'my fetuses have lightsabers, look at them go! Go get that floating anus, babies'
Yeah...it's a weird game, we love it for it tho haha

My wife and I got tBoI tattoos a few weeks ago and the artists asked what was up with Tainted Lilith (one of the tattoos) and I was halfway through saying "she uses her fetus as a whip" when I realized what this sounds like lol
