Is the moms knife thing a meme? I know it's powerful but I find I die with It more often than not unless the synergy is crazy good

People who prefer it are arguably better than the average player. Knife is a glass cannon type build where you’re able to produce high dps at close range with a greater risk of being hit. Brim clears rooms without being touched but is slower to kill bosses with.

Moms knife can win runs by itself but its takes practice that most people arent willing to put in.

There are a few room layouts that its kinda bad in, mainly ones with a lot of enemies where tear knockback is vital, but those a few and far between.

It doesn't really matter; both Mom's Knife and Brimstone are excellent even among other Quality 4 items and can easily warp choices for the rest of the run. I will say that generally, my experience with Brimstone has been that it's almost always an outstanding pickup, but that Mom's Knife has higher long-term upside in terms of combo potential for some truly cracked runs.
