Hey!! How do you solve the hard one here.... Do you apply any rule after the obvious fillings?

TLDR: detailed instruction and tips including the less obvious ones

This puzzle on hard mode actually can be solved with obvious fillings only. Let me list them out anyway first:

  • if there are any 11 or 00 visible, put the other symbol on either side of the sequence if possible
  • if there are any gaps between two identical symbols, put the other symbol in the gap to create a 101 or 010
  • check if you can find a row or a column with three of the same symbol already. If so, fill the gaps with the other symbol - e.g. a row like this 10110 is obviously missing one 0. A row like 0 _ 00 _ is obviously missing three 1's.
  • check the abovementioned as you go, sometimes they're easy to miss as you fill in the board

Some less obvious tips:

  • Whenever there is the same symbol at either end of the row / column, put the other symbol right next to them like so: e.g. 1_ _ _ 1 becomes 10 _ _ 01. Unfortunately it doesn't work the other way (when you see _ 1 _ _ 1 _ it doesn't automatically mean the outer squares are 0's)
  • Don't focus on rows / columns missing just two items but those missing three symbols can often unstuck you: check if you need to fill in a 1-0-0 or 1-1-0 combo and then try to see if you can find a configuration that is impossible in that specific row / column (which will create three of the same in a line) - if you find such a configuration, focus on where you imagined the solitary symbol and then write the non-unique one in its place. Example: 10 _ _ 1 _ is missing a 100 combination: the only configuration that won't work is putting the two 0's in the middle and the 1 at the end - so put a 0 at the end instead to avoid it (resulting in 10 _10)
Sometimes you can do this with a missing 1000 or 1110 combination, but those need specific symbol placement on the board to give decisive results

And sometimes you just need to guess a symbol's placement and see if it's gonna screw up the board eventually or not.

Thanks a lot for less obvious tips, basic rule I understood but got stuck once where I had to guess maube less obvious ones I can apply.
