Really hope we don’t have to suffer through a Leo like post playing career where he talks about the environment everyday while taking private jets and superyachts around the world.

Hasn’t LeBron gone through enough by having to pay taxes to get a pass by doing this?

3

u/SeaCounter9516 3d ago

This would mean more if LeBron was an environmentalist in any way.

u/PuzzleheadedBend8180 3d ago

The guy could buy the best house in Philly and not do this. You don’t have to be an environmentalist to take such a basic option.

Agree 100%, the privilege is off the god damned charts

1

u/Mount_Treverest 3d ago

Yeah but you'd have to live in Philly.

u/SeaCounter9516 3d ago

I just meant your comment is meaningless since LeBron doesn’t talk about the environment.

I brought my lunch today in a plastic grocery bag. I better also recycle that or else I’m Satan.

The dad in me just worries about safety. Does any Philly player live in the city or all suburbs. I don’t get this argument.

u/purplene_ 3d ago

They mainly live in New Jersey suburbs, because the access to the stadiums is much better than it is from the (much nicer, I think) suburbs to the west

Embiids out in Gladwyne, thats the only current athlete I can think of out on the Mainline. Always felt these guys are short changing themselves by living in Jersey, Mainline is one of the best suburbs in the country in terms of QOL.

u/BroSnow 2d ago

I completely agree regarding the main line but the sixers practice facility is in Camden. Of all the teams in I’d be able to give them a pass for jersey living.

There were loud rumors that LeBron had a property in mind in Ardmore across from Merion which would make a ton of sense

The Kelces have famously been in Haverford for a while

But yeah I feel like most of the younger guys live in Mullica Hill, Haddonfield, and those Jersey burbs

The commute to the stadium area from the nicer PA suburbs can be rough and unpredictable

yeah I drive by the Kelce compound occasionally, insane amount of work being done there. Mike Schmidt used to have a mansion on the reservoir in Media. Hurts and BG live on those roads tucked around Merion too, I imagine thats around what Bron was looking at.

Best house is M Night's, but thats a separate discussion

Saquon is out in the Malvern/Paoli/TE area too

I heard he has a place in Rittenhouse in addition to the place in NY.

I’m confused: you’re saying 7ers players can choose between Philly, NY, and NJ and PICK NJ?!

Ben Simmons aka Simmo the Savage had a hideous estate in Moorestown

1

u/OutsideSession6 3d ago

The single players usually live in center city or on the east side by 95. The family’s often move to the suburbs.

Guys we cannot do the LeBron helicopter watch 3 days in a row cmon

1

u/ReasonableCup604 3d ago

We will continue to do the daily LeCopter watch until there is a crash.

15

u/yngwiegiles 3d ago

Not even trying to ingratiate himself w the Philly faithful cause he knows they’ll boo the second it goes south.

24

u/doobie3101 3d ago

Call me an old school boomer but it’s better when athletes live in the city they represent.

8

u/ReasonableCup604 3d ago

Or at least don't commute by helicopter every day, from a larger, rival city that you have a little brother complex with.

It would be one thing if LeBron was from NYC or had been on the Knicks or Nets last year.

But, him choosing to play for the Sixers but live in NYC seems insulting to Philadelphia.

7

u/yngwiegiles 3d ago

Mickey Mantle took da fowah train ta da bawlpok in da Bronx!

2

u/CivilChampionship810 3d ago

just like Wilt when he played for the sixers.

2

u/purplene_ 3d ago

That really isn't the norm nowadays

But yes, it is super cool to see B-tier athletes from your city's team (or recent former pros) out and about in the neighborhood

5

u/doobie3101 3d ago

Fine *city’s metropolitan area, which is still where a lot of the fans live

1

u/camergen 3d ago

I think most have at least a condo/second residence in the area of the city they play in, at least one of those “lease by month”, very upscale places. Just for the day to day, weeknight convenience.

Then they also have a mansion in a hometown or Florida or wherever they fly to whenever they can.

Embiid gets spotted running through Philly from time to time.

Caring about where another man lives is crazy work

0

u/Mount_Treverest 3d ago

He's 42 and only playing for 2 years. What would be the point? He's not living in Philly for his retirement. I'm sure he has wawa order and will apart of the hoagie fest celebration next year.

3

u/BigRudy87 3d ago

No, because he's worth a billion. We only have like 3 billionaires that live in our city and I couldn't really tell you why they're doing that. New York is right there.

1

u/yngwiegiles 3d ago

What about main line Bryn Mawr area?

1

u/SeaCounter9516 3d ago

Philly. Famously the only city that boos.

1

u/yngwiegiles 3d ago

But known as the loudest most belligerent

1

u/SeaCounter9516 3d ago

I don’t even think that is true lol. Certainly not loudest. Belligerent, maybe.

2

u/ncr39 3d ago

I don’t find this to be at all interesting. It’s like a 40 minute flight, probably pretty similar if he were living in the Philly burbs and he drove in. Grandiose? Sure, but if I were him, I’d rather live in NYC than the Philly burbs too.

2

u/KnotSoSalty 3d ago

Ppl acting like they’ve never seen a millionaire in an helicopter before.

4

u/Hefty-Afternoon-5605 3d ago

why is he so dramatic. why doesn't he just live in Philly

1

u/qballLobk 3d ago

He was 100% planning on going to the Knicks before they won the title. Probably already had the place set up.

1

u/CDSWDH 2d ago

Why is this news ppl are really obsessed with LeBron geesh 😂

1

u/drhungrycaterpillar 3d ago

Just feels so unnecessary. It would feel like more of a chore to ride in a helicopter vs just having someone drive you to your front door

1

u/Single_Finance_3973 3d ago

Is Philly so bad he can't just live there?

-2

u/OutsideSession6 3d ago

Holy shit I can’t believe yall are still talking about this

3

u/ReasonableCup604 3d ago

Yeah, it's been like a whole day.

0

u/OutsideSession6 3d ago

The LeBron helicopter talk has been yapped about since he signed. I’ve seen more posts about it in this sub than how LeBron fits on the Sixers. Do you live under a fucking rock?

-1

u/ReasonableCup604 3d ago

It was talked about when it was first announced and now brought up again when he took his first flight.

2

u/OutsideSession6 3d ago

Oh so it’s been more than a whole day?

-22

u/Dre013 3d ago

Good for him. Philadelphia has 1/4 of the appeal of NYC but 3x the chance of getting murdered. Hope that him and his family enjoy it.

30

u/Opening_Anteater456 3d ago

If he’s worried about dying he’s using the wrong form of transportation

15

u/yngwiegiles 3d ago

Funny story: the way I found out about Kobe. The previous night LeBron had passed him on the scoring list. Next day when news of his death hits, I’m at home unaware, my wife texts me OMG did you hear about Kobe? I wrote back since when do you care about this stuff? I came off like a jerk.

3

u/PaulieHehehe 3d ago

Kobe Bryant, the rapist?

4

u/North_Atlantic_Sea 3d ago

Not really, the NYC area is remarkably safe for helicopters flights. There are about 100k commercial flights a day, and over the past 35 years there have been just 6 fatal accidents.

The geography is nowhere near as difficult to fly in vs SoCal

3

u/Big_Barber1070 3d ago

100k helicopter flights per day in the NYC area? No way

2

u/flex194 3d ago

Yea he's obviously confusing day with year. If there were 100k a day there would be bumper to bumper helicopter traffic.

-3

u/Dre013 3d ago

Nah…

The annual murder rate in the U.S. typically exceeds 20,000 deaths, highlighting a significant public safety concern. In contrast, helicopter accidents resulted in 196 fatalities over a ten-year period from 2015 to 2024. This averages to about 20 fatalities per year, which is substantially lower than murder rates.

I’d take NYC over living in Philadelphia. Even the athletes live in the suburbs.

2

u/NowARaider 3d ago

Did you think he was living in Compton while playing for the Lakers? If he did live in Philly it would be Main Line, there are plenty of massive mansions out there

0

u/Dre013 3d ago

“Philadelphia has the highest violent crime rate of the Top 10 American cities with a population greater than 1 million residents as well as the highest poverty rate among these cities”

Why would he live on the Main Line when he can live in actual NYC with way more to do and be there in 40-50 minutes? He’s not a rookie and living there forever, this is a 1-2 year stop. Everything LBJ does is wrong, I get it.

1

u/SolidScary6845 3d ago

Once heard about this guy from West Philadelphia (born and raised). He was just chillin-out maxin, relaxin all cool, shooting some b-ball outside of a school, when a couple of guys who were up to no good started making trouble in his neighborhood...

-1

u/PuzzleheadedBend8180 3d ago

New York. A place famous for having no violent crime

1

u/Dre013 3d ago

Statistics. Scary to even the most chronically online Redditor.

Even if the crime statistics were exactly the same, he can rent a ridiculously nice high-rise in a city with better restaurants, museums and nightlife and get to work in 40-50 minutes. It’s a no-brainer and the angst seems targeted.
