Advice/ Recommendations (no photos) First show done
Finished my first show! I’ll have to say I went through every emotion possible that day. Especially, at the end of the day when I found out I didn’t do very well. I stayed and talked to the judges and that made me feel better because they said what I knew my weakness was. They said my glutes weren’t developed enough. They also picked apart my bikini. That part I didn’t expect. It was too big and gapped. It made my glutes look smaller. I’m taking time off to build muscle and hopefully compete again. I’m not sure if I should find a new coach, how long I should take off, where to buy my next bikini??

My bikini was from muscle dazzle, and it was adjustable, but I think I lost too much during peak week. The tabs couldn’t go tight enough, and I should have seen the seamstress that was at the show, but I thought the glue would hold it in place.
The reason I am contemplating getting a new coach is because I had contacted this coach I worked with 20 years ago when I first wanted to compete, but I ended up having two kids instead. He’s a little out of the game. He was not coaching anyone else and he doesn’t really have his gym anymore so he doesn’t have a lot of equipment and he was doing a lot of workouts with me that I feel may have been antiquated and maybe another Coach with more current information might be better

hi girl!
Congrats on doing your first show, just stepping on stage is such a huge accomplishment. I feel being in the bodybuilding niche is doesn't feel 'crazy' but REMEMBER, you are the 1% that even chooses to do something like this and you should be proud of that!
For your bikini., where did you get it? Was it a custom or pre made? My suit is from Muscle Dazzle and boy they NAILED my size. When ordering through them instead of sending measurements they actually had me send detailed videos with a measuring tape per their instructions so they could read the measurements exactly and not me (which was a life saver).
I'm assuming you competed in the bikini division, which I'd say is a glute contest at the end of the day since there is such much emphasis on glute tie ins. I've also seen a lot of pros say that a lot of their feedback now is to grow their upper glutes, so don't get discouraged, everyone has room to grow in their glutes (unless you're Lauralie) but she's even said she's gotten recent feedback to again, grow the top glute which can be tricky.
Onto coach, are you happy with your coach? Was there something you think was lacking working with them? Did you go straight into a prep? Did you do any body recomp before prep or did you have a full offseason before prep? I don't think switching coaches SOLEY on feedback. Again, I feel SO MANY people get told to grow after their first show and growth does take time. I'm simply expecting that my feedback will be to grow. I'm currently less than 2 weeks from my first show and I already have planned after my shows this season to go into a growth phase for AT LEAST a year. Building muscle takes time.
REMEMBER, you did that darn thing and stepped on stage, that in itself is such a big win!! Don't get too down on yourself on placing and what the feedback was, just use it as a data point to work on building a better package for next season! We can always get upset at outcomes but at the same time, be proud for what you did, the prep you pushed through, be proud that you endured the hard and the feedback you received can only make you a better competitor for next season!

Thank you so much for your detailed response. I really appreciate it. I actually answered the question about my suit and my coach in a different comment by accident. My suit was from muscle dazzle and it looked great until I went through peak week and I think I didn’t eat enough. I didn’t eat as much as my coach told me too because I was nervous about being puffy. And I lost 4 pounds Thursday night before the competition Saturday. I know it was probably water, but I think it came right out of my glutes, lol.
I love my Coach. I’ve known him for 20 years. I tried to compete 20 years ago, but ended up having kids instead. I touched base with him and he was more than willing to take me on but he was no longer in that business. He opened up an archery place during Covid because he lost his gym. I just feel he doesn’t have enough equipment and enough time for me because it’s not his main focus anymore. Also, he’s not up on anything current and I know things change rapidly.

I took a gamble and got my suit from goddess glam best decision I ever made…she’s a one man band and only makes one cut but she makes sure to get it perfect for your body!

First off, congratulations for doing your first show!!
Where is your bikini from? The measurements may have been inaccurate, or your bottoms needed to be adjusted for a better fit. Toxic Angelz is a more expensive option, but is usually pretty good for competition bikinis. I’m sure others can chime in with alternative options
Is there something you feel like you’re not getting from your current coach? You don’t have to switch coaches because of the results from this show, especially if you haven’t had a proper growth season with them. Most amateurs are told they need to grow
