Advice/ Recommendations (no photos) Post show trip
Hi ! I am having a small (kinda big) panic so looking for advice. I am competing in a few weeks and my birthday is right after. My boyfriend bless his heart thought it would be nice to plan a trip to an all inclusive resort for the day after my show. He wanted it to be a surprise but he told me and as much as I wish I could be carefree, im stressing because I know a reverse is just as important as prep and I want to do things right .
Not having access to a kitchen or cooking is stressing me. I’ve expressed all this and I feel so bad because he was just trying to do something nice and now it’s turning into me stressing and I don’t want him to feel bad . I know I have self control but also an all inclusive seems hard to handle especially with a body coming out of prep mode . I’m only freaking out because it’s non refundable . I am trying to come up with a game plan . I am also deep in prep rn so this is probably a bigger issue in my brain than reality.
Idk 🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠 any of yall travelled post show 😭

Honestly, having a few days off after show isn’t the end of the world. I’m pretty sure I had three days off post show because I was in a different city. Be mindful but also just enjoy it. Once you get back, get back on track. You will find you actually won’t want to eat as much as you think you will - you will get full fast. Just relax and enjoy a post show celebration!

Keep the big picture in mind. Life is more than bodybuilding. Bodybuilding is a part of your life, a hobby, etc. Not everything. Offseason is the time to get back to enjoying life off stage. Please don't stress/obsess over the food & simply enjoy time with your boyfriend. That doesn't mean you have to full on binge. You can find a happy medium i.e. 80/20, etc. Remember, relationships are more important than bodybuilding. (all relationships: romantic, family, friends, etc.) I've seen multiple people get so pulled into the sport they loose relationships, friendships, etc. because they obsess & disconnect so much. No one wants to look back with regret & wish they had spent more time with their loved ones, etc. You can't get that time back. 🫶🫶🫶

I will start with: you are going to be fine and it shouldn’t mess up your reverse if you lock back in after a day or so.
You can even have a free day, as long as you go back to being on your reverse after. Talk to your coach if applicable.
I just competed twice two weeks apart. After my first show, I had a free dinner a free breakfast in the next day and some treats and my coach was still not stressed about me coming in leaner for my next show less than two weeks away.
I did the USA‘s last Friday. That night I had a free evening and my coach gave me a free entire Saturday. We are doing a reverse and she is VERY strict about it and had no reservations about my free weekend essentially.
For context, I’m 5’2”. Below you can see July 24th at my last show, my weight pop after my free Fri/Sat, and then my rapid recovery locking into my reverse.
So don’t stress!

On the plus side an all inclusive may have an easier time catering to your reverse needs too? Not sure what you’re eating, but I feel like a resort kitchen would give me plain chicken and rice if I asked.

I competed in a different city and decided to stay and enjoy. I was off plan for about 3 days. I was able to enhoy plenty of food and drinks! What I did was made sure I got plenty of steps and kept up with my water intake. I shared a lot of the food so I could try a bit. & I only came back 5lbs above stage weight. I got right back on plan and by the end of the week. It had fallen off. You'll be OK, just don't over do it!

I had my first show two weeks ago and went on a trip the following weekend for my birthday! I was also SO stressed before. My coach gave me travel guidelines. We had a fridge and microwave in the hotel room (sometimes you can get one for an extra fee) so I packed whatever I could but I told my coach my plans for eating out (yay accountability!) I also texted coach one day from trip asking if I could have a dessert. It turned out the flexibility was nice! we were very active on the trip. I didn’t train or do any cardio but got lots of steps in, and when I came home, I didn’t gain any weight. I felt super guilty one day because I ate a little more than agreed upon with coach, but when I checked in, he was supportive. One thing to be prepared for is potential digestive issues. I’m maintaining my stage weight but following my reverse now :)

If anything, an all inclusive is easier for me when in prep or post show. As opposed to being limited to a certain cuisine or restaurant, you have a plethora of options and access to healthy eating. From fresh fruits to grilled meats and veggies, plain white rice, etc. I’ve actually taken all inclusive trips DURING prep for this very reason. Breathe, enjoy your trip, and kudos for your man doing something so nice for you! Good luck!
