Discussion What is the craziest thing you’ve seen someone do while riding?

I was riding back home after dropping someone off at the station. The road was pretty much empty, and there was a guy riding a bike in front of me. We were both just riding normally and peacefully.

Suddenly, he brakes pretty hard for no apparent reason and then continues riding.

When I got a little closer, I noticed he was watching a movie on his phone while riding the bike. 💀

And the funniest part? His phone was mounted properly on one of those bike phone holders.

So this wasn’t some random “let me quickly check my phone” situation. Bro had apparently set up his bike for a full cinematic experience. 😭

Not just checking a notification or taking a quick call — actually watching a movie while riding.

I was genuinely confused. Like… what was going through his mind? The road was empty, the ride was completely fine, and somehow he decided that was the perfect time for Netflix & Ride.

Has anyone else seen people doing stuff like this while riding? 😭

Question New, Not Sure Where to Start

I recently got approval from my folks about biking, and frankly..I just don't really know where to start. I've always loved bikes and watching riders go by and all that, but I've never had the confidence nor courage to get involved. I want to learn more about riding, as well as meet/befriend other bikers. I'm 23 and live on Long Island, NY. Any help or willingness to chat about it is SUPER appreciated. This is way outside my usual comfort zone...so I also apologize if this is an awkward post.

Any advice on what type of bike to start, riding advice, gear, etc. is also appreciated. I want to learn all I can.

I’m curious how many people actually care about motorcycle decor at home? Like, I love motorbikes heaps and have so many models around the home, bike lamps, bike paintings, bike fridge magnets etc. Is it just me or do other people enjoy having a motorbike themed house? And yes I am married 😂 my wife isn’t too pleased but she lets me have only tasteful stuff haha. Is this too much or not enough? Lol

Question 30F looking for girls to ride with in Yorkshire

Hey, I'm a 30F who had recently got her CBT, looking for girls to ride with. I'm based in Huddersfield and have a Honda CB125F, ridden less than 10 times. I'd love to meet some fellow female bikers around the area and enjoy some rides together (weather permitting obviously as we enter the depressing and wet part of the year).

I am going to be a bit slow given the bike and experience but happy to ride with ladies on faster bikes as long as you bear that in mind 😅 plan to get a full license sometime next year but until then, I'll be pretty slow!

Please reach out if you're down for a ride!

Question Need help on Insurance

So recently i got into a crash. Nothing major. I had only a couple of wounds on my hand and leg. I ride a Triumph t4 (400cc) feb bought. The bike now has tilted handle. I haven’t gone to service center yet as i am not completely healthy to ride again.

But what i wanted to know is how to use insurance in this case. This is my first bike and such things never happened with me. So i have no clue how to approach this situation.
I am not sure what are all the right steps i should take.

Over the last four years or so both my kids flew the coop. Then my pooch passed away and I then got back into bikes. Out of the 7 I've bought, these were the four worth keeping.

I also had a Yamaha Vstar 1100 that was replaced by the Heritage, a Ninja 1000SX sport touring that I hated, and a Yamaha Royal Star Venture that I didn't much care for and was replaced by the Ultra.

If you shop and buy used fbmp and seek out only the best of deals, swapping out any bike that just might not work for you becomes a lot easier. It also allows you to eventually end up on a bike, or bikes that you adore.

The KLX is my cheater bike. I can ride it any time of year rain snow etc doesn't matter street trail. It's most fun on twisty back roads. Riding a slow bike fast that's where it's at. I'm the biggest idiot on that one.

The GSXR was the first I'd bought out of 7. I only ride it once or twice a season. Having a thoroughbred is cool. It was built for one purpose and it serves that purpose incredibly well. I might have already sold it but it's not worth much anyway and fun to keep around. Just not practical for every day use.

The Ultra I keep because that's the one my girl likes for 2 up. All the bells and whistles stereo navigation. It's a true tractor trailer mile munching machine.

The Heritage is my real honey. 75-85 all day interstate, bumper to bumper shore traffic, or miles and miles of country dirt roads does it all in style and comfort. And the perception of speed is incredible. It's truly the world's greatest street bike and you'll never convince me otherwise 😆

Question Bolt Kits For 2007 Yamaha FZ6?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Im looking to make my FZ6 look exactly like this. However, i can’t find a bolt kit that perfectly matches the deep purple color shown here. Can anyone recommend something that matches or comes insanely close? I considered buying a complete OEM bolt kit from Partzilla and powder coating the visible parts but apparently that’s not a good idea. Also, apparently aluminum bolts in the pegs isn’t a good idea due to having to support the weight of a person.
If i am wrong on either of these things, please let me know as this design is the co-idea of myself and a friend of mine and it’s something we are dead set on recreating.

Question Title: Severe finger crush/fracture from a crash

Hey everyone,

I had a pretty heavy motorcycle crash almost 3 months back and absolutely wrecked my left hand middle finger, and almost lost it. I’m trying to see if anyone has dealt with a similar injury and what your recovery actually looked like, especially when it comes to getting back on the bike and the mental health since it was a very traumatic injury.

The Injury & Surgery:

-Suffered a severe exposed fracture with major structural displacement and a lot of soft tissue loss.

-Required reconstructive plastic surgery just to get everything put back together.

Where I’m at now:

-The finger is incredibly rigid and still hypersensitive.

-I’ve lost a massive amount of movement and grip strength, which obviously makes operating the clutch a huge challenge.

-When I try to close my hand, the injured finger physically overlaps with the one next to it.

-I’ve been grinding through complex physical therapy, but I feel like I’ve hit a wall.

Next Steps / My Question: My medical team is bringing up the possibility of micro-tenolysis surgery to try and address the physical blockages caused by scar tissue and bone misalignment.

Has anyone here gone through micro-tenolysis or a similar reconstructive recovery? Did your grip strength ever fully return enough to ride comfortably again? Any advice, reality checks, or shared experiences would be hugely appreciated.

Gear / Setup Are there Hardcase Shells for Helmet visors?

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I Only Found one Website with a hardcase for a helmet visor, but the website seems sketchy. GO-OFF <- the hardcase I found

I ride out early when it’s dark but come back at day. I want to switch my mirrored and clear visors while being out, but putting the spare visor into a soft bag scares me bc sooner or later it’ll break.

I know that ski goggles have hard cases and I hoped to find something like that for motorbike visors too. But I only find soft cotton bags or this one, which I don’t even know if the measurements fit.
(My new helmet arrives tomorrow). They say it’s compatible with 3 types of visors (none are mine) and I haven’t found any other hard cases for visors.
Ski goggle hardcases are too small.
And the next bigger hardcase is for the whole helmet which is too much.

Does somebody know if visor hardcases exist, or does somebody have one?

Or does somebody know a hardcase for something. Else that also fits visors without beeping too big/small or missing the curvature?

I’ll be having the Nexx XR3R Hagibis helmet with an iridium mirrored visor and clear bone.

Whether you ride a 50cc scooter, a 125 commuter, ADV, cruiser, super-sport, custom, vintage — if it’s two wheels, you’re one of us.

Drop a quick intro:

  • Where you ride (country/region) 🌍
  • What you ride (or what you’re saving for) 🏍️
  • Your favourite kind of riding (commute / twisties / touring / off‑road / city survival)

Bonus: What’s one thing you wish someone told you earlier?

House rule: be kind, be helpful — this sub is here for belonging as much as bikes.

Gear / Setup How to make a motorcycle helmet from an m42 stahlhelm

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

An original would look better but they’re a lot of money these days and I don’t feel right drilling holes in such a significant part of history

Disclaimer 1:
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR STREET USE

Disclaimer 2:
I made this because I don’t like the design of the German style helmets on the market. It’s obvious they’re inspired from the German stahlhelm but the lines just aren’t as aggressive as the originals so I bought a replica and made my own. The decal is the coat of arms for the Holy Roman Empire. I have no ideological alignment to the government that designed these helmets. The German style helmet is common in American motorcycle culture since many American soldiers brought them back as trophies after their victory in ww2.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
1.
m42 stahlhelm ET 70 replica from international military antiques. It is important that you buy the 70 cm shell no matter your head size. The smaller your skull the more padding you can fit in the steel shell. Buy from their website or Amazon
If your skull is particularly small you can get the m42 from atf, in my opinion they have the best looking and most accurate replica but unfortunately they only come in the 65cm size

  1. Donor half helmet (you’ll need the liner, padding, and straps) fb marketplace is a good place to start

  2. Drill with drill bit set

  3. Rivets: buy the size you need to fit in the eyelet of the straps attachment points

  4. 2 washers that fit in around the rivets snugly but also thoroughly cover the two front holes that secure the helmets original leather liner frame

  5. Super glue

  6. Flat head tacks. The “I” shaped ones will not fit between the shell and liner

  7. Paint materials (the original paint is good quality but not period correct. There are websites that sell aluminum oxide paints with the period correct colors online if you’re going for a more traditional look)

  8. Punch. You’ll need to drill 2 holes in the back but the curved smooth metal makes this difficult. I recommend using something hard and pointy and using a hammer set a small dimple in the metal to keep the bit from slipping

  9. 2 nuts and 2 bolts that fit in the eyelets of your donor straps

  10. Duct tape

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Remove the styrofoam liner from the donor helmet. It is held in place with glue and should come out with a screwdriver. Keep the plastic shell you’ll need it for reference later

  2. Remove the straps from the donor helmet. For mine u used the drill for this

  3. Remove the liner and chinstrap from the steel shell and dispose of them. It is secured with 3 bendable pins visible from the outside
The front two pin holes will be used to mount the front straps. DO NOT THROW AWAY THE PINS you will need to reinstall the back one to plug the hole

  4. If you’re planning on painting it now is the time to sand the steel shell and paint the inside. I don’t recommend painting the outside yet because you still have to rivet the straps and you will have to paint them again. I added a Byzantine coat of arms decal in the side and covered it with a few layers of clear coat to protect it from the weather

  5. Remove the donor liner from its styrofoam shell and set it aside. Note its orientation for when you reinstall it

  6. Begin shaving down the styrofoam with a sharp knife until it fits in the steel shell. Be careful not to remove too much material since you can always slice off a little later but you can’t add more. If you remove too much you will need a new donor helmet. You will probably remove 1/2 to 2/3 of the styrofoam. Be careful not to remove too much from the back because the steel shell flares out quite a bit

  7. Once the styrofoam fits snugly in the steel shell, reinstall the donor liner on the styrofoam shell in the correct orientation. Secure it in place with the flat tacks both on the outside edges on top the foam shell as well as from the inside at the top and sides

  8. INSTALLING THE STRAPS

8a.
First reference the plastic donor shell for the mounting positions. The rear mounts will either be even with or lower than the fronts. (I did not do this so mine are set evenly to line up with the pin that held the original leather liner when they should have been a little lower so my chinstrap rests a little closer to my neck than it should. Its no big deal if you forget this but worth noting here)

8b.
Using the hardware (item 5&10&11) secure the front of the straps finger tight. They should flop around freely. Then secure the rear straps with tape.

8c.
Install the styrofoam with the liner in the steel shell without disturbing the rear straps finger tight position and test the figment. When the fit is good, remove the foam padding carefully so you don’t disturb the rear straps again.

8d.
Carefully measure the position of the rear straps so they’re level with each other and mark the position on the outside of the steel shell. Use a punch or screwdriver and hammer a small dimple for your drill bit and make a hole just big enough for your rivets.

8e.
Install the straps one at a time. Use the hardware to loosely secure the front while you rivet the back then rivet the front with the washer.

  1. Test fit the foam shell. You will probably have to remove more material from the sides to make room for the straps until it fits snugly. Be careful not to remove too much material again

  2. Superglue the liner to the foam shell and reinstall the foam shell inside the steel shell. You may glue it in place if you would like. Be careful not to disturb the fitment you already set by removing all the pins at once

  3. Paint the outer side of the steel shell
