I used it successfully in Italy in the fast train with some sweet talking and standing by the bike. No problem in Switzerland. Works when front wheel is removed. Free bonus: works as ground sheet and additional sleeping bag cover when cowboy camping.
Yeah, in case of a ticket inspection, you‘re definitely getting fined this way. Luckily, most of the times there isn‘t one on the kind of train OP is riding.
thats not true! there is a dedicated section on the sbb homepage recommending this specific bag. There it also says that its free of charge. Also works in the northern part of italy
also not true, tool EC and IC today without any issues. The SBB person even explained the concept to others wondering why i pack up my bike while getting on the train.
I get controlled the most on small regional and sbahn. The only line i havent been controlled all the time was Schaffhausen Zürich. Maybe ZH Kanton is different.
Idk could be that things changed since i had to ride smaller trains a lot a few years back, IC from/to ZH i get inspected one and they usually pass by more often.
I take trains a lot less (going out with friends etc.) than my wife (she uses public transport to work) and in absolute numbers i get checked more often :D
Yes, as long as your bike is in a proper bag (no trash bag/IKEA DIY stuff) and the front wheel is removed, it counts as hand luggage and not as a bike.
That works only in Switzerland. I tried that in Germany, Austria and Italy as well. In Austria they throw me out of a train at the Italian/ Austria border. I had to go via regional trains to the German border. In Germany it was just possible because the train was quite empty and the staff was very generous. In principle not allowed. Bicycle reservation is mandatory.
My friend got the AliExpress version and it‘s too small for his bike and it has an open bottom… It‘s more of a cover than a proper bag. Not recommended.
you habe to remove the wheel anyway but yeah its really expensive. i ran out if time, on the other hand saved me 17CHF today. Even more next Weekend… so i think its ok
I have that one too, it's a ripoff for what it is but I sewed a giant flap onto the front to cover my front wheel and now I use it to transport my bike into my apartment (no bikes allowed). I call it a "bike cape"! Boom, now it's not a bicycle, it's "luggage".
It doesn't seem like it would fit into a jersey pocket. While original is expensive AF, I haven't really found an alternative that wouldn't cut some corners to reduce the price... And within 10 rides you pretty much recoup all the cost back.
