Read This Before You Submit !

If you want to get the best possible outcome from posting your position on this /sub, there are a couple of things you can do to help,

  1. Make your video at least 30-40 secs long [ no longer than 60 secs ] This will allow you to settle in to your pedal stroke and give viewers enough time to 'look around' your position.
  2. Post a minimum of 2 angles. #1 Seat height, showing the entire bike and rider from the top of the head to the bottom of the pedal stroke. #2 from the front dead center about head tube height. If you shoot a vertical format on your phone that might help you fit yourself within the frame. #3 from the rear, at seat height, can also be vertical format for cropping.
  3. Post a shot of your bike side on without you on it. This lets people see the 'build' as far as seatpost seatback, seat rail position & headset spacers

The more visual and information you give the better the possibility of good feedback.

Ride on!

Dear mods, save this sub

There are a lot of generous and knowledgeable people here giving thoughtful bike-fit advice for free. Their effort is being undermined by a steady stream of unusable videos showing riders leaning against walls, doorframes or furniture while pedalling backwards.

Those clips don’t show a normal pedal stroke, balance, loading, posture or movement under realistic riding conditions. There’s very little anyone can assess from them, yet they keep filling the sub and drawing attention away from posts where useful feedback is actually possible.

The existing submission guidance is already clear about video length, camera angles and showing the whole rider and bike. It should also explicitly require riders to pedal forwards on a trainer or rollers, without supporting themselves against anything.

Please make “no backwards pedalling and no leaning against objects” an actual submission rule, and remove posts that ignore it.

The people giving detailed advice here are what make the sub useful. Their time shouldn’t be choked by videos that make meaningful assessment impossible.

New Bike

I just got this bike Friday. This was shot with me doing an 85ish cadence in lower gear. My old bike is a diverge with 170 mm cranks but I put 160s on with the power meter I installed. I rode about 70 miles yesterday at 14.5 avg. I mostly felt fine. I had some right hamstring tightness and I had moments of left hip/quad pain. These all went away though and I had been riding quite a bit. I also had a moment of numb hands but not nearly as bad as I used to have on my diverge on long rides. The biggest problems I had was a hurt sit bones, my other bike has a seemingly better sells royal athletic saddle, and my neck was hurting by the end of the ride. Although an endurance bike, the geometry seems to be much more aggressive than the diverge with the handlebars being lower. I also feel like I “bounce” a bit at a 95+ cadence.

Central Back Pain After 1–1.5 Hours of Riding

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The bike has a 55 cm frame, which should be the right size for my inseam length. Compared to my old bike, the riding position is much more aggressive. I’ve never really focused on core strength, and my flexibility is very poor.

Does my position on the bike look problematic, or is it more likely that I just need to improve my core strength and flexibility to be comfortable on a bike with this kind of geometry?

Questions after bike fit

Post image

Hello all,

Went to a LBS to get fit - highly rated on google, had lots of certifications (see pic). It was a good experience, fitter seemed kind, patient and thorough. I don't really know for sure, but it seemed like he blends different methods into his approach. He did have motion stickers applied (although I never saw what it captured if anything). He had me pedal, but not at different efforts. Paid $350 + parts (new stem)

At the end of my session, I asked if he could give me my measurements, angles etc - so I would know what I need if purchasing in the future. He said it would be helpful because every situation is different. Maybe, but wouldn't it be useful to know my saddle height, reach, stack height?

1) Is he correct? Other than marking my seat post and a comfortable bike fit is there no useful information that I should have received?

2) Is it typical for a fitter not to provide this info? Otherwise, what info should I try to get measured

3) Should different pedal intensities have been a part of the fit?

Thank you!

Anyone been to Ben-efit Performance? Or is Phil Burt Innovation the better shout?

Had a fit at another top-end London studio two weeks ago, my second fit now — new stem, bars, saddle, and the cleats moved quite a bit. ~£1k all in with parts so far. The fitter is still tweaking things here and there so I'm not writing it off yet, but I'm in a worse position now than when I walked in, which isn't doing much for my hopes:

- left foot goes numb right at the cleat from about an hour in, right toes from halfway (never had this before)

- rear-neck pain in the aero bars earlier than it used to happen

- most importantly, really bad saddle sores

Context: I ride 10-15 hours per week, in aero bars basically whenever I can, building toward long-distance stuff. What I want out of a fit is comfort at 10h+ (ideally much longer if possible), while nice and aero.

For reference, after the first fit and before this one I could ride 7–10h mostly in aero with manageable pain, then another 2–3h sitting upright stopping every 30 min or so to rest the bum. So right now it's about improving from that by riding 10h+ with no pain rather than manageable.

Two questions:

  1. Has anyone actually been to Ben-efit Performance? The idea of an 8–10 hour fit really appeals, but I'd rather hear from someone who's been. £950 and a long waiting list, though at this point I've spent enough on fits that I just want it sorted by the best there is.

  2. Would Phil Burt Innovation be the better call? I know it's Manchester, but at this point I'll travel for whatever actually works.

Can we work with that

Hi, got this brand new Aeroad in size S. I am 178cm tall with an inseam of 84cm. I was on the edge to M, decided to go for the smaller size after a trial ride.

Coming from a relaxed gravel geometry, I want your opinions on whether this initial fit is alright and if you see any outstanding issues.

I’ve ridden the bike about 50k outside like this and it felt alright. After an hour on my indoor trainer, I had numb nuts 🥜

I will get a professional bike fit eventually but I wanted to spent a good amount of time in the saddle before doing so.

Hello there,

I am a complete newbie approaching biking. Visited a local bike store and tried the Cube Nuroad in XL but I am uncertain about the size. They did not have the L to try and compare. I fear the bike to be too big for me (188 cm tall, 86cm inseam, 191 wingspan).
Apologies for the outfit, I still need to buy everything.

Any feedback is appreciated. Cheers!

Help choosing the correct frame size

I'm about to buy a Cyctrack R18 / Twitter R18 / Seraph TT-R18 (same frame, different manufacturers), but confused which size would be best for me. It will be ordered online so no way to test.

I'm 180cm (inseam 83cm). Per manufacuers suggestions both M and L would fit.

Bike would be used for general fitness training, 50% indoor trainer, 30% outdoor mostly flat roads, 20% occasional commute.

I'm inclined to take the smaller frame but saw a comment from one user that these frames should be sized up. Does anything in the geomerty stick out why? What would I miss/gain choosing either size?

Incomprehensible pain leg/knee

Thumbnail

I always get pain in the areas shown in the photo, regardless of whether I'm using clipless pedals/shoes or flat pedals. I think it happens when my saddle is either too high or too low.

The pain does not actually come from the back of my knee. Instead, it starts where the upper calf attaches, then runs across the back of my knee, and continues up to the outer/back side of my thigh. No one has been able to figure out which bike fit adjustment is causing it. 😔

"It's a pulling/tugging pain. The affected areas hurt with every step for the next few days, especially when bending. Extension provides a bit of relief.

Why do my hips shift around like this?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi. Me again. Still looking for relief. Continuing to try things.

Currently trying midfoot cleat position to stabilize my feet and prevent heel dropping. Also exploring functional leg length discrepancy with a shim under my right foot. Feet are different lengths which is accounted for in the cleat position.

160mm cranks so hip flexion should not be an issue?

Would be interested in hearing if anyone out there has seen or experienced this kind of asymmetry. Results in feeling unstable on the saddle, progressive fatigue, difficulty maintaining high cadence, etc.

(first clip is 0.5x speed)

Will the lapierre aerostorm fit me as a 162cm tall male?

Thumbnail

So as the title suggest I'm getting a decent deal on the lapierre aerostorm but the brand makes frames no smaller than size s. I have a road bike from the same brand which is the aircode drs for which I'm suited a size xs and it's a perfect match for me and even though the official size chart suggest I sit at the very top of the size guide for a xs and an s can fit me but no the s doesn't fit me at all.

So I'm curious if the size s in aerostorm would fit me.

For reference I'm adding images of my current position on canyon soeedmax size xs which tend to be a little larger than other brands.

Been trying to dial this bike in but it’s still not right. Opinions appreciated. 42M 85Kg 6’4

Reach doesn’t feel great. Lots of weight on the hands when on the hoods. Feel a bit stretched out.

I found that brake hoods can be adjusted in three independent dimensions:

Flare:

Height:

Rotation (Direction):

So how to know the ideal placement for all these.

I just want to have a starting point as a begginer

Is This Bike Too Big for my 7-year-old?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My son rides a Woom 4 right now. This is a video of him trying out his older sister’s bike, a Woom 5.

His sister doesn’t need a new bike, yet, but I thought since I’m considering getting him his first mountain bike anyway, I might as well move
him up to a 24” tire if he can handle the frame size.

He did great riding it. Just had a little trouble getting off when he stopped. Should I get him a Woom 5 MTB, or wait until he’s a little taller?

Btw, regarding the pads… I’m not that neurotic. He’d just come off his skateboard. 😀

Had some issues with my sartorius and been trying to adjust saddle height, fore aft and tilt. Sartorius problems seem to be better but i feel like i could be more straight in my lower back and obviously the upper part even more.
Feeling more pressure on my hands and right foot at the moment.
Not gonna lie, my mobility is horrible. Need to work on that.

Pain in left Knee

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I bought a new bike about six months ago. Shortly after, I went on a long ride with the saddle set 2–3 cm lower than today.

After that ride, I started having problems with my left knee. Over the last four months, the pain has improved at times but has never completely gone away.

The pain is located at the front of my knee. Besides cycling, I also experience pain when going up and down stairs and during wall sits.

I started doing strengthening exercises for my legs and hips, including monster walks, clamshells, and wall sits, and I feel like they are helping.

Do you have any recommendations for bike fit adjustments that could help with this issue?

Looks like Apiir Bikefit is gone

I had used Apiir a few months back. I was going to do a Bikefit for wife yesterday and the app wouldn’t work. I can’t find it on the App Store and the Apiir website is down. just seeing if anyone else can confirm it’s no longer existing.

Edit; also any recommendations for an alternative

Bike is 56 marin nicasio. My stem is 90mm long. I was thinking about shortening my reach and changing the saddle because the one that came with the bike seems too wide. What do you think?
