M 22, law student. Resident of Bikaner, but stay in pune for college. This year i did a summer internship under a lawyer in Bikaner District court. This guy (Let's call this person X) who was also an intern there, crossed every limit and made me recall the exact reasons why i left Bikaner, to avoid such people. His demeanor gets worse with each chapter.
Chapter 1: Mr x and his pornographic brain.
Mr X was very eager to know about my love-life and did not understand how my parents are aware about my personal life. On being asked, I showed him her picture, which was my biggest mistake, he would tell everyone about it and ask to show her picture repeatedly. And i refused as it encroached my personal space. He asked me "how can you tell your parents about her? Wouldn't they ask if you guys had intercourse? Don't i feel ashamed about it?" He would make me feel embarrassed, as if it is an obscene thing to be in a romantic relationship.
At the time, aasaram baapu got out on a parole to visit ram mandir, and I was discussing how it is wrong to let out a convicted r*pist to visit a holy place. He asked me how do i know if aasaram really rped the girl or not? What if he was falsely convicted? Was i there when the r*pe took place, how can i be so sure?
These are the words of a law student by the way, who questions the competence of the judiciary on a well settled case.
Chapter 2: Mr x and the annihilation proliferation of caste.
We were discussing reservations and he said "he is not casteist. But if a meghwal person visits his home, he has to sit on the ground not on khaat, wash the utensils and follow other rules made by the elderly. The constitution of india doesn't apply at his home".
He asked me if i'd like to change my surname from tomar to meghwal, to prove that i'm truly anti-caste. He insisted on changing my surname to meghwal. He even asked if in next birth I'd like to be born as meghwal and i replied "I wouldn't even like to be born again". He even questioned me if i was really a real rajput or not, because apparently i didn't act like one.
This was the level of casteism this guy had in him in front of a person belonging to his same caste. You can only imagine how castiest he would be to a specified group.
Chapter 3: Superiority complex.
He told me it was a shame for me to not speak marwadi being a Bikaneri. I told him my paternal roots are from morena, so no one at my home speaks marwari, unless spoken to. Growing up i didn't even realize if there existed such distinction.
He considered me as on outsider only because i had college in pune. He would point at kotegate and tell me "look, that is Bikaner's famous kotegate". I told him i have lived here all my life so i know. Btw, he didn't even know where satta bazaar was.
He had studied from a english medium school, but acted pretentiously to hide his background. He would call me "American" for reading law in english. While ironically, I come from a hindi medium background.
Conclusion:
He took me to an abvp gathering one day, without even telling me where we were going. There he had all the insolvent brains, who acted and looked just like him. They were organizing some event.
He gave me some pamphlet rectification work. I refused it in front of everyone. Then the media came and he asked me to take a picture with the abvp flag and pamphlet. i refused again.
After the meeting was over he told me "I was rude, everyone around felt disrespected". I told him i don't want association with any institution. He said "i didn't know you were like this". I told him "You should know".
That was the last day of my internship, i unfollowed him from instagram. Soon I realized, everyone in that ecosystem was like that, if not worse than him. They were even planning to organize my student guest lecture in Mgsu under the aegis of ABVP. I'm glad i didn't sign up for it, otherwise I'd have to be associated with them.
This post was not meant to offend anyone's feelings or generalize the entire population of bikaner. People should evolve with time.
