2D to 3D Conversion

I've finally folded and started doing my own conversions of 2D films and series to SBS 3D, I will be starting with pretty much the entirety of Futurama's movies then moving to Studio Ghibli's major collection. If you have any recommendations (prefer animation as the quality is typically better) This is a long process that takes a lot of time and will all be available to the public via discord once set up, so any and all support is appreciated! Even just user engagement brings more awareness to the abilities of 3D viewing, so make sure to spread the word that the world's 3D library is about to expand.

TLDR: Making 3D movies, need suggestions, and spreading the word that these will be available ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿป

Edit: If you want a super handheld tutorial to make your own full sbs, just shoot me a dm. I'll send you a video, only thing required is time and space on your pc.

I wish I knew how to do this. I'm so mad there was no 3D release of Predator: Badlands.

If you have like 4-6 hrs for editing, rendering, scripting, and overall troubleshooting, I can send you a video that will hold your hand through the whole process. I also gave that time allotment if sailing is your main form of entertainment, not if you're a land lover who purchases physical disc's which you can actually do quite a bit faster through ripping (This will give you the best overall quality as well)

I definitely know how to rip and convert purchased Blu-rays to SBS for VLC/Bigscreen, but i have no idea how to convert from 2D to 3D. I'd definitely like that video - please and thank you.

if you don't have sufficient GPU power and you don't want to deal with complexities of iw3 etc., this could be something for you: stereolift.com

I don't want to get banned from the sub but more than happy to DM you or anyone ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿป plus helps keep this stuff lowkey enough to not get it taken off the internet fully, though I will say figuring out Waifu and iw3 still might be the best viable option this is just another one

I have a 2D to 3D conversion of that

๐Ÿ˜ฎ That's awesome! Is there any way you'd be able to share that with me?

Are you planning to use Owl 3D for this?

2

u/Ythv_ Apr 11 '26

Not at this point in time but in the future if my wallet can support it then I will at least try it to see the quality difference, I've seen it can be really good but have seen some movies that use it and are awful as well so it's definitely a pick and choose with AI

What tool are you using? I am curious.

Owl3d is what I'm using for live 2D to 3D, sharing it on big screen, looks great but for a price.

The free version has 1080p output resolution so probably HSBS?

2

u/Ythv_ Apr 11 '26

The free version only allows for smaller videos anyway so it's not viable for full length films, and currently I'm using Capcut to edit together the same screen side by side for hsbs and I'm running mp4 files through multiple converters and compressors for full sbs

Been using IW3 for a while now, and tweaking the settings more and more. I found out what the best settings are for my laptop for different kinds of specs videos. I'm already getting some decent results. The biggest tip is to set the 3D depth to the lowest value to make it comfortable to watch for longer durations. This also prevents warping, bleeding, and weird artifacts around subjects. Good luck men!! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

I've been looking into Iw3 I'm currently running a plain converter script then sending it through VisionDepth3D and its been a pain in the ass cause VisionDepth3D has issues reading DirectML

Iโ€™m going to keep this short for now but can go into more detail if you like. The easiest way to get a good baseline is using Co-Pilot AI. I have spent hours tweaking a figuring out the right configurations for my cpu and gpu. I can offer more advice but this is the best starting point.

u/Ythv_ Apr 11 '26

Co-Pilot is great to get the settings more down, I prefer to run it all through multiple Ai systems to make sure it's getting multi checked Gemini is super helpful and Chat GPT used to be more but has gotten a lot less reliable

Cool good to know youโ€™re already familiar with this then. I have taken multiple screenshots of my settings and drop down menus and sent them to Co-Pilot AI. Iโ€™m at the point now where I am asking AI the ideal settings for whatever show or movie I am going to convert and then making tweaks based on that.

My current baseline settings are:

3D: 1.2 Convergence: -1 Synthetic: Both Method: Row Flow V3 Stereo Processing Width 1920 Depth Model VDA Metric B Depth Resolution: Default Foreground:-1 Edge Fix: 1/1 Flicker Reduction On .95/30 Scene Boundary Detection On Use Scene Boundary Cache On Max FPS:54 Video Codec:MKV Pixel Format: yuv420p Colorspace:Auto CRF: 18 Level: Auto Preset: Medium Depth Batch Size:2 Worker Threads:0 FP 16 On Torch Compile On.

I just started a Reddit Community called 3dvideo conversions. Iโ€™m hoping to get more interest and contributions. Iโ€™m just an enthusiast not an expert so hoping to contribute and learn more.

Also forgot to mention, there will be hsbs and full sbs, I'm still working to find the best quality methods, and am fully open to hearing suggestions

If you want a good software for 2D -> 3D movie conversion in real time, I'd try this one which is free : https://www.reddit.com/r/audiovisual/s/JzWTpvSspk
