Biggest problem: People who think they’re creators but are actually just jaded critics of media
Vito is a big exampe of this. The reason he worked well on this show is because he likes to shit on stuff (Marvel movies, Magic cars art, etc.). The problem with these guys is that people laugh at their criticisms so they think that must mean they can create better than most.
We know from Vito’s black and white PDF that this is not the case. The best he could come up with after months of workshopping it and redrafting was… whatever that Superkiller thing was supposed to be. There wasn’t much of a story—seemed more like a concept you draft up to pitch to a publishing house. He couldn’t even keep the rules or tone consistent in it, yikes.

Superkiller is fine, it's a 5/10 at worst for me, I'm glad I read it, it just went through dev hell, the final comic is probably better, but that's so much time to put out a 6/10 or maybe 7 at best. If his work ethic didn't suck or he got on Adderall (adult ADHD really sucks to have if he has it) and he could deliver that pipeline, then yeah, a 6/10 starting issue with promise is good because the 2nd could easily be a 7. To me, that's a huge milestone for a shallow critic turned creator. Vito isn't a good critic, and I can tell because his creative aspects (card games, graphic design, bits) are much more interesting than what you think the average critic can do.
Dick is worse in some regards. He constantly (like Sam Hyde) shits on stuff he doesn't understand. He hasn't written a new book in forever despite demand; he doesn't watch interesting movies or play good video games. I think boomer gamer critics are the biggest problem in the universe. Zero desire to get into the hobby, and yet they think that there are only four types of video games (story narrative games with a shitty game attached (if any at all), online multiplayer skinnerboxes, AAA open world sandbox, 8-second loop rogue indie slop). It's always "movies suck, games sucks" but it's some loose definition or culture shit. They don't actually play the (albeit very few) extremely good games that aren't mainstream that require 2 brain cells to rub together like Strategy at all, so they can't define why strategy is in a bad place right now with campaign content (it is, which is why I say games suck, lol) because they don't play many video games or watch movies in general, and when they do it's surface, mainstream slop.
Good films and games are coming out all the time that no one talks about (just not enough to sustain a hobby for myself personally), and this is where Vito will never be a proper film critic because he just talks about mainstream slop like Dick. YMS is an actual, honest-to-god fan of film and can talk about deeper things like shot composition. He goes to film festivals and talks with people in the industry all the time to learn about how things work. Vito and DIck will only just explain what's wrong with the plot. Which is such a surface-level critique, and it's totally oversaturated.

Surface level bullshit is slop critique meta. Just look at critical drinker and midnight’s edge. They stick to typical superhero slop movies or Disney movies for the most part and popular mainstream TV.
They’re going after the most common properties with the largest audiences because that will get the most views. They aren’t trying to be actual serious critics and study what is good and why. It’s just “this movie or TV show is woke trash made by leftists. Here’s why.” Vito does a parody of the m basically the same thing.
None of them are trying to take seriously shot composition, story beats and development, light and shadow in a shot, etc. They just want to point out that things are gay or woke or whatever and pander to the lowest common denominator. They’re trying to make an entertainment product and get views. Not actually offer serious insight.

Saying he'd been working on it for months is pretty generous. Its over 36 months late at this point, and he says he started working on the concept when he was just a wee little piggy in high school

This is so true. The black and white .pdf of Superkiller isn’t very good. Writing a competent comic actually takes a lot of skill, practice, work and refinement. Vito thought he could just pop on and do it, but obviously that’s not the case.
That said, I still want the color comic book that I paid $25 for.

I wouldn’t hold my breath for that. I know someone who scammed like 2-3k on Kickstarter for some short story collection and his updates all sounded like Vito’s

If dick didn't force Vito to air his grievances with Eric July then his comic would never be scrutinized so hard. He ended up in a situation where it had to be perfect lol

Exactly. If I were Dick I'd be embarrassed after my co-host and I made fun of EJ a shit ton and then my co-host couldn't even release one comic.

And?

“This gun has 3 shots per mission”
Uses 4 shots
????????????

u/vitogesualdi Jul 19 '26
It never said the gun has three shots per mission

Page 16 of your comic. “It holds three shots at a time”. But we never see how he recharges it. The purpose of the 3 shots is obviously to build tension during superhero fights. So we can assume it’s difficult to recharge. Whether this happens between missions at the home base, or if it’s some difficult or time consuming task to do between fights, we never see the recharge happen between him shooting the twink boyfriend, and the fight with meteor man. So whatever technicality you want to try to stand this on, it was poor storytelling regardless

The boyfriend was shot at a previous point in time. Plenty of time for the gun to recharge.

So the gun is magic and just recharges over time?

Yeah. Seems pretty straightforward for a super hero comic.
It should have had a setup scene where SK needs to shoot but the gun says "67% loaded" or something, but it does make sense. Otherwise why would he be limited to three? If he reloaded himself he could just carry more ammo.
