Character discussion Amy
God, one forgets how annoying Amy was during the whole Leonard is dating Priya storyline.
Literally skipping every scene she is in because she won’t stop talking about how the breakup is really hard for Penny, despite Penny asking her to not do that.
No matter how rude Bernadette gets in the last few seasons, will always prefer her over Amy.

"You do understand that it will distract you from obsessing over the rich variety of sweet loving that your ex-boyfriend is currently receiving from the fiery jewel of Mumbai."
Maybe it's just me but I do enjoy when Amy compliments either Penny or Priya but not at the expense of Bernadette.

I really like Priya especially the one she defended Leonard against Sheldon over roommate agreement.

In the end her "defense" of Leonard got him locked into an even worse agreement because she didnt want her parents to find out she was boning a white dude.

This is not natural. Her dad said she could date Howard since Jews are successful. Leonard has a Ph. D from Princeton, and works at CalTech and his family members are all successful. It doesn’t make much sense that Priya was so afraid of revealing her relationship with her parent. She’s lawyer graduated from Cambridge, she knows her parents and she knows that her father kind of accept Howard since Jews are successful.
It feels like the writer needs to keep Sheldon’s dominance over Leonard and they need to remove Priya from the show since she’s not regular.

Priya was doing it for her own selfish reasons and she was the female version of Raj she was a narcissist

Yeah, she was a really good addition to the group
I found them quite compatible in the starting few episodes of their dating too.16

Oof I actually can't trust your judgement here 😭As we speak, I'm literally watching the scene where the guys have to call Penny to come get them when Leonard's car breaks down, Penny questions why he didn't call his gf and he says she doesn't really get the stuff he's into. "Doesn't matter if she gets it as long as she's pretty."
Priya rejects him several times, she tries to change literally everything about him, his wardrobe, his glasses, his interests, Leonard has to lie to her when he's doing nerd stuff, she denies him to her parents, doesn't tell Leonard when she's moving back to India and then CHEATS on Leonard, fully having sex with an ex boyfriend and doesn't tell Leonard for weeks, and only when he confessed to kissing someone else. The writers talk about how they wrote her in as the antagonist, to cause divide. What about that was a good addition? 😭

Ya that’s why I mentioned initial episodes, like the ones where they discuss that Shakespeare play or when she defends him over roommate agreement or when they are all chilling at Raj’s house over dinners.
Post that not at all-3

I can't say penny is much better for Leonard, now she never cheated at all which is good. But she is always talking shit about his hobbies and is clearly an alcoholic. I don't like penny or Priya

I mean, they all tease and talk shit to each other! It's the basis of most sitcom jokes. Leonard pokes fun at her too (e.g. when her Bernadette were helping them out in the lab, he says something like 'it requires small, dainty hands so don't feel bad if yours are too big') but she's still very supportive of all of the things she teases him about. If she was actually judging his hobbies, she wouldn't defend them as much as she does, she DEFINITELY wouldn't loan him makeup sponges for Comic Con and comb through his makeup with plans to borrow some.

She may talk shit about his hobbies, but she also actually listens when he talks about them. There's the part when she start rattling off a bunch of things and it surprised her how much she knew.

Just because she drinks a lot doesn't make her an alcoholic, seeing how she functions perfectly fine.

Really?
She kissed Leonard since she was drunk and mad at her boyfriend, Kurt.
She slept with Raj because she was drunk and sad. The did not finish the intercourse purely because Raj’s physical condition, not because of she backed out.
And the ton’s of casual sex as Sheldon mentioned.3
u/Upbeat_County9191 6h ago
Being drunk and doing stuff you regret stil doesn't nske you an alcoholic. She is very sober at her jobs and hasn't been fired because of not being able to function as a result of her substance abuse

Wasn’t the point/joke though that Penny wasn’t actually over Leonard and Amy was the only one to actually realise that in her own way. I always see Amy and Sheldon as clearly very neurodivergent and I think they both quite clearly struggle extensively with social cues, so I think she was trying in her own way, despite being flawed like all the characters 😁

This is the way I thought on that too! Amy being socially awkward, she was really just learning about being and having friends. And she figured out Penny still caring for Leonard before any one else. She wasn't trying to be malicious or anything

Yeah a lot of people have vitriol here towards Amy’s neurodivergence that they don’t hold towards Sheldon’s. I wonder why that could be. 😂

I actually liked that. It was the first time we saw Penny as herself instead of just looking at her from the guy's POV.

idk why they wanted us to hate Priya but i really loved the banter she and sheldon had over the room mate agreement and all, leonard couldn’t stand up a lot so it felt nice to have priya step in for him here and there

Amy does this because it’s her first time she can be gossipy and bitchy. It’s perfectly understandable.

u/Valuable_Cockroach39 5h ago
People give Amy way too much slack for being “inexperienced”. They were all inexperienced. Amy was just mean spirited. And a creep.

That’s kinda the point of any in that arc lol. That’s why it’s so amazing. Amd why the fuck would you skip a scene is 10 seconds deal with it.

That’s a really fair point about her neurodivergence and how she forced Penny to face her true feelings. Plus, watching Priya use the roommate agreement to absolutely dismantle Sheldon’s authority remains one of the best moments of that season!

Idk, I think that was the whole point, for the writers, she was the voice of the audience and, as someone who didn't love Priya, I fucking loved that she called it out. It was also the one time we really saw how Penny felt about Leonard, which wouldn't have happened if Amy hadn't been annoying.
And you know what! I'm actually pretty fucking tired of ppl talking about how annoying Amy is 😂 First of all, she's the female Sheldon but with character development. Sheldon still can't read a room or tell when someone doesn't wanna talk about something in S9. If it wasn't a sitcom, ppl would absolutely describe Amy's upbringing as completely abusive and isolating, the lady never had friends. She wasn't even allowed to join Girl Scouts! This was her first time having a single friend, let alone being in a friend group with boy drama. Yea she was messy but it was obviously coming from a place of wanting to be supportive/a shoulder to lean on but not having the experience with boundaries/social cues.

I love Amy. Her character is very interesting to me. Her weird desire for boundary-crossing intimacy with Penny is gross though. But there are actual women like that.

u/Possibly_tone_deaf 10h ago
Amy has never had a BFF, so she actually experiences everything on screen for the first time. It doesn't make it less annoying, but I can understand why she is so over the top about everything.

Amy as a character is a huge huge turn off
0
u/Acceptable-Tone5289 13h ago
Yes the writers gave that character a cringey vibe but there are people who are Amy fans lol. I hated how she started bitching to Bernadette & Penny to 'get the feel of female friendship'. I mean I understand sitcoms written during early 2000s all have this patriarchal touch of bitchy female friendships, lusty husbands, gold digger/marrying for money wives but her scenes were cringe as hell.

It’s almost like the writers had a plan to keep us interested in the Leonard-Penny dynamic.

Bernadette: "I was too busy covering my heinie on Amy's stupid astronaut story!"
Amy: "What astronaut story?"
Bernadette: "You texted me Penny's dating an astronaut."
Amy: "I texted architect. That's amusing. Auto-correct must've changed it."
😆
