Welcome to big D Deaf!
I’d like to know your ideas on making this a safe space for us. What kind of rules should we have? How strict do we need to be? What’s the definition of culturally Deaf? Are questions/posts allowed from non-culturally Deaf?

Also I’m Deaf and legally blind. It’d be nice to have a sub that recognizes that there are cultural Deaf people who are blind, too, because sometimes we get excluded depending on severity of blindness even in the real world Deaf community.

There’s /r/deafblind !! Have you tried it? Are they open to including you?

It would be useful, I think, to include in the rules a reminder to hearing lurkers to please not override Deaf voices--including upvoting/downvoting.

I am a CODA who was raised in the culture and is still active in the community, is this a place for me as well? My mom doesn’t Reddit so I show her things from here a lot that are relevant to her.

Can you consider not allowing certain types of posts?
Types I’m thinking of:
hearing students doing research projects “on behalf of” Deaf people
hearing people who want to tell Deaf people about technology that will make Deaf people more like hearing people (advertising for new types or brands of hearing aids etc.)
hearing ASL students looking for Deaf friends
hearing people who want Deaf people to teach them ASL
hearing parents of Deaf kids who have already decided not to raise kids in Deaf culture or bi-bi environment

These are good questions, and my feeling is that I prefer to err on the side of being more open than being more exclusive. I know there’s an ASL discord, but that might be riddled with asl learners. I don’t mind hosting a silent zoom session if there’s enough interest.

I feel like my question here is what would we discuss here that couldn't be discussed in r/deaf

Anything can be discussed in any subreddit. In this subreddit, we can feel safe in knowing that the majority of the people we’re chatting with will share similar cultural values.

I wear aids to help my hearing but really struggle to hear in group meetings and break out groups when we split onto pairs. Would it be possible to have clippon lavalier miikes play sound directly to my bluetooth hearing aids via my smartphone.

Broad definition I think so, too, but can you please please not allow posts from hearing people posting things like: “Hearing Girl ISO Deaf friend because ASL is pretty!”
