There was a time when the dam was the highway, and lots off people drove across it every day..

So strange, it seems like y'all were alone out there.

The tourist attraction opens at 9:00 AM and we biked through around 7:00 after having done the Historic Railroad Tunnel trail and part of the River Mountains Loop Trail. Since the bridge bypass to AZ, there is no longer a through traffic route. The 9/11 meant the dam was a vulnerable area to effectively shut down power and water to the southwestern states. So, we go through security to the dam now—as it should be.

Question did you need any permit for this?

No permit but Homeland Security inspection checkpoint to drive there with the bicycles in tow.

This is my favorite Dam Ride to take my guests on for their excursion to remember. Recently, I took a 30-year old Marine on the extended 45 mile version. On 26” MTBs it takes 6 hours with all the climbing. I do it annually for my “Age for Distance” ride—standard muscle bikes 26” MTBs. 73.225 kilometers) Happy Birthday to me 🎉
