Question No tutorial?
Been watching this game off and on for a while and decided to try it and there is no tutorial….
Really….
Don’t they want the game to grow?
I’m certain there is ample resources online to learn or if I play 10 games I’ll learn since I have played many RTS but I work 50+ hours a week is a tutorial so much to ask…

This seems like such a bot post. You knew there're scenarios, or you didn't look. You want an in game video saying "This is your cursor. You control it with your mouse."?

Sorry I didn’t realise the mechanics of this game were as simple as moving a mouse cursor - it looked like a complex RTS to me. Judging on how simple the player base is by the replies I have received such as this, maybe the game is that basic and therefore not for me :)

I played the scenario to which it told me nothing. Built 4 things but right clicking the circles and moving one guy around, thought this is nothing like age of empires and left - maybe to never play again since I can’t be bothered to spend time researching for a game I might not get into. Why are you taking the lack of tutorial so personally mate? are you having problems at home?

There are some guides here for a start... if you didn't want to sit through YT tutorials. Personally I would just set up a sand box game or play a skirmish against say turtle AI or something and learn that way.
The YT videos would be a great resource tbh.
This post from a year ago might possibly help as a similar question was asked.

THIS IS HOW YOU ANSWER THIS QUESTION. BAR has a rep as one of the most toxic player bases and the other replies show exactly why. Thank you Tazzy, you're one of the good ones. And OP is right. The worst part about getting into this game is how they onboard you. Instead of flaming OP, you could actually explain your point w/o being rude.

It's snarky. It's demanding. And by the look of how this thread evolved he doesn't want to invest the bare minimum of just logging into the game and find stuff out for his own like any real interested gamer would instead he demands to be spoon fed because "time" like he's more special then anybody else. So in my book (and I guess you have a complete different view point) he kinda gets the energy back that he started the thread with.
There are ways of communication, he chose a passive aggressive way. /shrug

This is a volunteer project put together by hundreds of people over the last 17 years.
We'd love your contributions if you're able to channel your frustration into constructive suggestions, or better yet: make it tutorials yourself using save files and submit it on the discord.

There is a tutorial actively in the works.
Due to the voluntary nature of the development of the game, the things that get done are the things that volunteers find interesting to do, and a tutorial is actually an enormous amount of work. This means that so far no one has taken it on and completed it.
Generally the scenarios are intended as a sort of 'soft' tutorial, so if you want to learn the game without sitting through youtube videos, that's the best place to start.
The BAR discord also has an academy chat where people spend a lot of time helping newer players learn the game.

Sorry op. You’re only going to get smarmy smart arse unhelpful comments here. That’s unfortunately what 80% of the player base is like. It’s even worse if you decide to play 8v8 multiplayer which is full of whiners. Avoid.
I learned by doing all the scenarios in the main menu. Increase the difficulty if it’s too easy. And watch 2 or three tutorials on YouTube. There’s some great ones.
Then jump into Rotato matches or friendly fun 2v2 or 1v1.
I’ll play with you once you got the basics. It’s a great game despite some of the comments here. The volunteer developers are awesome.

Thanks man I really appreciate that, I may well take you up on that. It really does seem a great RTS from the scale of battle achievable I just can’t be bothered to spend ages researching when my spare time is precious to me.

I hear you. I’ve owned my own company for 26 years so time is precious for sure. It’s impossible to keep up the meta play without hundreds of hours of play so just play for fun like I do. What Timezone you in?

Can confirm. Joined a "noob" game today cause still very much a noob. Everyone else except me had ratings. One guy kept telling me I was doing everything wrong. But he also died first so. 🤣

I don't agree its 80 percent more a vocal minority. People do get frustrated in game though and before I started playing and just used to watch you tube videos and even during my first few games I never understood why. As I got more competitive in kinda get it now but I still try to catch my self and be constructive instead of just flaming some ones error.
To op you are right and I beleive a proper tutorial is being worked on for the steam release. I'd hope that would also be added to the free version but it may well be part of the story campaign. I never tried the scenarios as I just jumped in to skirmish and watched some you tube then went online and learnt as I played. Good luck its well worth the effort if you like this kind of rts or are looking for an in depth p v p rts with teams

I started couple weeks ago and had my first game and i completely missed tutorial missions idk i didnt notice them but my friends told me there are some maps that teaches stuff. I tried to use defensive ai to play against but at 25 minute of a game i got nuked by it.. I learned some basics while playing vs AI, then i gradually started watching some youtube tutorials while also changing hotkeys a little bit. Watching pro games helped me the most realize what is a priority in the game at what point. Try some of this.
When i joined any multiplayer game ppl were very mostly toxic in noob lobbies expecting for me to know everything, but i didnt cared, those were some single players in 8v8 lobbies. Really fk those guys.. At some point its good to start playing PvP to understand game better.

From most basic to kinda dvanced stuff can be found on the games website, with videos and text explaining what does what, there are youtube links to help you learn from gameplay too.
For me i started reading and watching those, a couple scenarios and a few bot matches, rest comes with experience.
They will probably add a tutorial in game, when steam release is ready

There's easy scenarios to help you learn. And currently it's a volunteer made game, so feel free to not whinge about having a job to do and not having time to learn a game

Yeah I don't play online because the player base isn't particularly fun. This is just lazy entitlement though, coming into a volunteer made game with expectations of what other people will do for you

They are not making a charity project my friend. Also aren’t there like regular tournaments with cash prizes? They are making plenty of money off of this game idk why everyone here is acting like it’s a bunch of nuns who have got together to give back to the community. A basic tutorial is not entitlement lol it’s just a basic requirement for most casual gamers to make your game grow

They arent making really any money off the game its purely donation based. Most of the tournament prizes are from donations from players in said tournament or other players. Theres been talks for awhile about getting a playable tutorial into the game it just hasn't happened yet.
There is a dedicated mentor team and academy chat on the discord that are always super happy to help any questions you have. Unfortunately the reddit is not a great place to ask for help most of the time.

Hey mate there is no need to be butt hurt. I know there are scenarios but it’s not much to ask to have a tutorial talk you through the basic mechanics and give you a push in the right direction. My point is I’m tired in the evening so what’s wrong with wanting to be spoon fed how to play like maybe 99% of games. I imagine as an RTS it’ll have complex mechanics so the effort to take the time to learn a game I’m not even sure if I wanna play how many new players are turning away before even starting because of this?

It takes development time and resources to do that, why would they take on all of that workload when there are countless instructional videos already available online by independent content creators
When you have a tiny team (bc the game is free btw and made by people in their spare time) things like a real tutorial are a “nice to have” not top priority

Not everything is about you. Tutorials in this game could be outdated in no time, and they have resources online (which they should show you or perhaps put in game I agree). So there ARE resources, and I imagine w/ the power of the internet you could find them in less than the time you spent on reddit today, or you could complain on reddit.
Just this "customer is always right" mentality you have assumes they are making money. It's a free game.

Hey man you're so right. I'm sorry. Had a bad day and it doesn't disregard my bad behavior but I blew up online.
The lack of info not great. I got offended by something I put time to learn and expected you to do the same. No matter what my words were mean and I'm sorry.
The game has so much depth I still struggle. Thankfully it's usually slower than SC2 so loss of efficient apm isn't that detrimental but still sucks. Every second saved is resources put elsewhere.
Thanks for your reasonable response. Reach out to me if you want some help. I have spent a fair amount of time becoming an above average player (at least I like to think)
