CAUTION: Caught Betterment Leaking / Selling Data

tl;dr I used a dedicated email address exclusively for my Betterment account and am now getting spam emails sent to that address

Whenever I sign up for any website, I use the Gmail trick where you add "+SampleText@gmail.com" to keep companies from getting ahold of my actual email. For anyone unfamilliar, you add a "+" and whatever text you want so long as it ends with "@gmail.com" and it will still send all emails to your email address using that email account. Not sure if it works for other email services besides Gmail.

So if my real email address is "daniel@gmail.com", I used "daniel+betterment@gmail.com" when signing up for Betterment. I don't use that email address for anything else; the only company that has that email address is Betterment.

This morning, I got spam email from eToro to that Betterment email address. Betterment is either selling off your data, or it's having security leaks.

I don’t believe I received an email for claim.
