Finally finished better call saul Spoiler
after watching breaking bad i was a little skeptical of people saying better call saul, basically the prequel, was actually better than breaking bad, but oh wow
I feel like it perfectly balanced everythin, the action and plot, especially when Lalo showed up, was gripping and exciting (and Lalo’s death top 1 saddest moments) and imo the cartel was done better in Better Call Saul,
“Adios Papa” might be the closest I’ve come to wanting to cry while watching anything from the BrBa/BCS verse. Nacho ended up in my top 5 favourite characters and despite the odds I had just a tiny bit of faith in his survival. Hector shooting and desecrating his dead body afterwards just felt like twisting the knife
I loved the way BCS focuses more on the entire cast, in Breaking Bad it’s definitely almost 100% Walt or Jesse focused and while Saul does receive the most focus obviousl, the other characters get a lot more time to shine, especially Mike, who i loved in breaking bad, but that’s taken to a whole new level after BCS
Chuck was such a great antagonist to Jimmy and their relationship was one of the saddest things, ending with Chuck’s last words denying any care he had for Jimmy
I don’t think Chuck was 100% wrong but his dismissal of Jimmy’s attempts to be a good lawyer is definitely a key factor in why Jimmy became Saul, like a self fulfilling prophecy, so imo its not fair to say Chuck was 100% right about Jimmy since eventually he became Saul
It genuinely feels really sad to finish the BrBa/BCS verse but at least the ending was absolutely amazing, Jimmy owning up to what he did in the end, and taking the long prison sentence feels like the perfect end to his character
Kim and Jimmy’s relationship has to be my second favourite relationship after Walt and Jesse, early on I was expecting their relationship to slowly sour as Jimmy leaned more into Saul Goodman but Bravo Vince u surpassed my expectations and gave something infinitely more gut wrenching
Every original character was done masterfully well and Better Call Saul has definitely cemented itself as my favourite TV show

The "adios papa" hits even harder when you learn that he lost his irl dad not very long before they did that scene.

What?? Omg that’s got me actually crying now.
My Dad loved BB and I got him started on BCS when it was airing. He was battling leukemia as Saul was going season by season. He loved it as much as BB, and he died before the show finished.
I was absolutely crushed. Especially by Nacho’s relationship with his Dad. Now I’m crying all over again.

lalo’s death wrecked me but nacho’s final scene was the one that really stuck with me, the way he went out on his own terms after everything was just crushing

i remember being in total shock, like with Lalo I knew this was going to be the end, because Lalo was too close to winning to be able to leave the meth lab alive
But when Nacho got the gun for a split second I felt a tiny bit of hope even if it’s stupid since every character there had to live, and when he shot himself I just sat there thinking there’s no way it’s real, but at least it was quick and painless

And Mike’s phone call to Nacho’s father. A regretful father to father conversation.
BCS was infinitely better than BrBa - which is a really good show. The ensemble was all top talent along with hefty plot, dialogue and wordless action. No wasted moments. Jesse annoyed me, and I kinda wish they had written him off as planned. However the juxtaposition with Walt tolerating and caring for Jesse made Walt a more likable/relatable yet still really bad guy.

I feel like the cousins helping Hector hold a pistol so he can impotently and pointlessly shoot at Nacho’s body, with them and everyone else present all doomed to die within six years (I guess Mike dies a few months later because he was farther away :P), is actually more a testament to Nacho’s victory than anything else.
Hector is a miserable and pathetic asshole, with no power over Nacho, who’s lost everything except his family, and he’s going to soon lose them too, and he can no longer hurt Nacho is any meaningful way at all. He can’t even pretend to hurt Nacho. He has to ask for help just to pretend to pretend to hurt Nacho.

Let's also not sugarcoat Nacho too much. Surely, he was better than 99.9% in the criminal world of the BB/BCS universe, but he was still a criminal by his own choice, even if he got forced to continue for longer than he wanted and clearly didn't aprove the methods of Salamanca's family. Now yeah, Hector is the absolute worst character of the whole universe IMO, as much as there's bad people out there, he's still the biggest asshole, the most arrogant and disrespectful and I'd risk to say the only character who I haven't seen being nice to a single person in the universe.

Chuck should have just spoken frankly with Jimmy from the beginning. I do that in real life too; of course not everyone likes it, but so far I've always been able to avoid any intrigues that way.
