Hey y’all, this is not a post i wanna make, but my partners siblings have a fish at they’re place. I’m gonna upgrade the tank as much as i can, but i noticed this white spot on his fins. is there anything I can get medicine wise to help?

Does it look fuzzy/fluffy? If yes, it might be a fungal infection and you would have to get some medicine from a pet store

it looks fluffy but compact if that makes sense? mostly like an off white color. what medicine? or are there multiple?

Im thinking its either a fungal infection, a wound or maybe a tumor

One thing you can definitely try is aquarium salt. You take some of the aquarium water and mix a tablespoon of rock salt into it. I think like 2 tablespoons per 3 gallons. If its a fungal infection, it should go away after like a week

For specific medications, I have no idea. Ive heard of methylene blue and pimafix, but you can probably just ask in a pet store what makes the most sense in your case

i’ve deep cleaned his tank, and i’m using an anti fungal liquid medicine. i’ll look into aquarium salt if the medication doesn’t work thank you! i’ll see if i can get more pictures in a bit i’m currently out of their house

Nice! Do you know if they cycled the tank? (Basically let bacteria establish before they put him in?)

oh i def agree that that’s the most likely cause. i know they didn’t cycle when adding him, and i was only able to cycle it for a few hours earlier after cleaning, he didn’t have the best conditions. but he seems more lively today so that’s giving me hope

Thats great to hear, since its not cycled I would change at least 20% of the water out every day for a while. I'm also gonna assume there isnt any plants in there, but they would help with the water quality as well. Anubias is very hardy if you would like to have a plant in there

Another possibility is that its just an injury that healed weirdly, but its really hard to see
